As most of you know, I have been working for a very long time on a large update known as RS4.1. This update has been changed many times, so I would just like to explain why it may not be as big as people may think and why it has taken so long to develop it.
In June 2009, CBFASI asked me to make a business system which would replace the current one. As this was going to be a very big change, he decided to call this update RS4.1
RS4.2, RS4.3 and so on were going to be other large updates which we were going to create. However, we are not currently discussing these.
Back to RS4.1, I produced a new business system which in testing worked and the few people that saw it (developers and some administrators) were pleased with it. However, Aragorn was not pleased with it. Therefore, I had to cancel this update.
CBFASI and I decided that I should make another update known as RS4.1, but instead of making it now, I should make it when SA:MP 0.3 was released as it would be full of brand new scripting functions.
When the scripting build of 0.3 was released, I was given a test server by Gandalf and was tasked with not only making the current scripts compatible with 0.3 but also to make new scripts, which would be RS4.1.
Sadly, it was too much for one person to do and I ended up not only failing to bring out new scripts but also largely failed to make RS4 compatible with 0.3. The scripts were handed to CBFASI when the full version of 0.3 was released and he managed to sort out the rest of the problems. So for that, I am sorry.
Anyway, 0.3 was released, now I had to make RS4.1. I decided to go with something that a lot of people wanted: bots.
I made 3 bots that flew AT-400s around the map. They would land at each airport, park, deploy stairs and markers by the doors, wait for a while, retract the stairs and despawn the marker, take off, go to another airport, cycle continues.
Players were able to enter the markers and end up inside the AT-400 interior. It was a very fun update to build and I and a lot of testers spent plenty of time on it.
However, after noticing some very serious issues, mainly to do with synchronisation, I had to cancel that update and move onto another one.
I decided to work on ARFD script support and a general way of firemen making money, so this is what I have done. This update has taken a long time simply because I want it to be perfect.
As much as I hate saying it, it is a known fact that if something is abusable, players will abuse it. Therefore, I had to make the script secure and unabusable, as well as bug free.
The update is almost finished. All I need to add now are some restricted developer commands for controlling the creation and deletion of fire missions. This will hopefully not take long and I will hopefully get the update finished and taken to the main server by next weekend, hopefully on friday evening.
So in summary, if we are being technical, RS4.1 development started around 8 months ago. I know that people will make comments about how this update is not as big as they thought it would be, especially for 8 months of work, so I made this topic to explain exactly what has been going on.
I intend to make more large script updates after RS4.1. Maybe I will call them RS4.2, RS4.3, etc...who knows?
There will be one last mass test of the update before friday to test for any last minute bugs that need fixing. If you wish to be a part of this, please join my Facebook group as I will be posting in the middle of the week the current IP and password of my test server as well as the times that the tests will begin and end.
All other information will be posted on the group, not here
