Damn that's a nice bike, anyway, I heard that laydown bikes aren't much comfortable for extended rides(?).

And I am curious about the price in our Country.

EDIT: Or I can buy the Aprilia RS50 which is a very common bike in my City.

I'd love to have a bike, but I always seem to have an accident on two wheels. I crashed into a wall earlier this year...

I think I'll stick to four wheels.

They should be around the same price.

In France you can start riding a bike up to 50 CC when you're 14.

So.

Hello,

I am 6 months away from becoming 16 and I'm really interested in purchasing a Moped/Scooter as a mode of transport. This post is mainly aimed to the people who reside in the United Kingdom as I believe the laws are different in other countries. So when I am 16, I will be taking part in the CBT test aswell as applying for my Provisional. After these are done I will begin a part time job to earn money for my moped/scooter with side money for MOT, Road Tax and safety equipment. I've basically got everything planned, I even plan to buy an Aprillia SR 50.

However, I am very curious about certain things which I can not seem to find over the internet so I hope you guys can help me out here. Here a few questions I need answered.

1) How much does the CBT course cost?
2) How long will the CBT course last?
3) Will I get the certificate on the same day or is there two parts of the course where it needs to completed at a different date?
4) How much does the Insurance, Road Tax, MOT cost for a moped?
5) Will I fail the MOT if the guy finds out that I possibly could of De-restricted the engine to reach excessive speeds?
6) Will the punishment be severe if pulled over and the police notice I destricted my bike?
7) Because I'm a new rider in the busy streets of London, am I allowed to have a passenger with me?

I appreciate your help.

Due to your age, I am assuming you are going to be taking your test in order to ride a 50cc moped, as you need to be 17 for the 125cc. Edit: Ah yes, just noticed the Aprilia SR 50.

1) There is no set cost. It will depend on a few factors, such as: using your own moped or borrowing one from them; which provider you go with; insurance, etc. But generally they will range between £80-£120 for the 125cc CBT, so I'm guessing it will be slightly cheaper for the one you are hoping to take.

2) The time to completion will depend on how fast you are at progressing. I haven't taken one, but my cousin says his lasted around 6 hours, but told me sometimes they can go beyond that depending on the learners' ability within the group and the size of it (you will be riding with other people taking the course).

3) You should get the certificate on the same day.

4) No idea, but I'm guessing it will depend on what moped you get, where you live, etc.

5) You will fail the MOT if they find out it is derestricted (which they will), however all you will have to do is put it back to normal before getting an MOT, and then derestrict it again after. How you do this I have no idea, but that's what my cousin did.

6) Usually points and a fine if I recall correctly. They could, in theory, state that your insurance is void due to the derestriction, and you'll get in trouble for that too. It's risky, but then what are the chances of getting caught? Not much I would have thought.

7) Nope. You can only have a passenger if you hold a full category A bike licence. Do not try doing this with just a CBT as you'll get in trouble.

That's as much as I know. I'm sure there will be some other people on here who can go into more detail.

Oh, and new discs all round today...

Shiny, shiny...

Derestricting your moped will invalidate your insurance. When the police stop you, they will take your mope away and you'll get a ban from driving and 6 points on your license.
