Derestricting your moped will invalidate your insurance. When the police stop you, they will take your mope away and you'll get a ban from driving and 6 points on your license.

Thank you guys for the help, I guess I will not risk destricting my ped but just out of curiousity, could the cops tell then and there if my ped is derestricted? Also the ped at restricted level is 35-40mph so I assume thats fine..

The police will pull him over in this country if they suspect that his moped is derestricted.

31 MPH... Being restricted to that would kill me with frustration. Even being limited to 100 would be bad.

If you stick to 70 on A-roads and motorways, then you're in the minority. At least where I drive.

A roads are only 70 if they are a dual carriage way, and even then they can be 40/50/60.

I wouldn't like to do over 60 on most of the a roads near me, I live a small bloody village.

Same here, but still.... If you derestricting your moped, then you are not that stupid so you stop when they try pull you over.

True, I should have added that the ones near me are 70. Regardless, I don't see many sticking to the limit, and if they did, they'd be slowing others down. I'm guessing that's why recent proposals to decrease the limits was met with a lot of negativity.

Living in a small village, I can understand. I don't speed in places like those, as of course that is just a pointless risk to myself and others. If I had to stick to the limit on motorways and other roads though, I'd be selling my car today (and getting something an awful lot slower).

Same here, but still.... If you derestricting your moped, then you are not that stupid so you stop when they try pull you over.

So your advice is to ignore the police and carry on?

When I cycle to the supermarket, some people go flying round past me, and once, I saw some moron crash right in front of me, wrote his car off.

I'm a cyclist myself sometimes and agreed. Unfortunately it seems we're the most hated on the road. I'm not that selfish when I'm in the car though!

There are no speed limits in South Africa..
Well on the highway/motorway what ever you would like to call it, the limit is 120km/h yet on a 2 lane highway, people do 70km/h in the slow lane and 140km/h+ in the fast lane, even the cops.
No logic at all, basically if you want to go at a speed near the speedlimit, you have to be over it.

Similar to Germany. Their autobahns do not have speed limits - just advisory ones. You regularly see some serious metal travelling at crazy speeds over there.

Recently, an M5 crashed on the autobahn at a speed of 186 MPH. Luckily, he survived! I can't imagine the punishment that comes with that though, especially as his engine would have had the electronic limiter taken off.
