I'm sorry but I've driven a 406 with a 2.2 HDI motor running on vegetable oil, not even diesel, which was outputting 180 BHP and 400n/m of torque from 1800 RPM and I have to say I was absolutely stunned. Sure, it lacks the refinement of my V6 but when you're getting 45+ mpg as opposed to 25 at most and there's barely any performance loss I have to say I couldn't care less what I was burning. Plus.. Mr. Taxman gets naff all

Ok might just have found the perfect car for myself - a 2.2 pre-HDI gen turbo diesel 406, executive trim with all the goodies inside. Well looked after, stainless exhaust, upgraded suspension etc. etc. Unfortunately it's cambelt has snapped. How hard would it be to repair?

there's quite a range at what the cost of repairing a timing belt would be, could be 250-700 (US) depending on your area and also depending on if you do it yourself or pay someone to do it ( its the kind of thing you want to pay someone to do)

ye my friend changed it himself on passat B5.5 and he did it incorrectly, missed on like 3 teeths, so had to get it redone by a professional.

W124 suspension is too soft- just look at them leaning when changing lanes at speed Needs 1" shorter springs, better shocks and anti-roll bars, potentially a strut brace and you're sorted, though. Best Merc ever that makes most sense is the W128 IMHO. So well over-engineered and everything is so.. in place somehow.
Problem with the cam on this car is that it snapped while in motion, not that it needs replacing. Fella still hasn't got it home, thinking about it I might go and give him a tow to his place but we'll see.
