Yesterday I was browsing through the internet (Mainly the Angry Video Game Nerd videos), when my computer froze in addition with the audio stutter, going into the Blue Screen of Death, while it was running the dignostic thing it froze at 65%. I then did a hard reset, and the system failed to load. It's running, but nothing's showing up. The monitor states that it is unable to find the source.

So, how can I tell what's the source of the failure?

-Motherboard (if that was the case, then I'm going to purchase a new computer)
-Hard Drive
-Graphic Card

Input is much appriceated.

It can be a sound card fault, or the diagnostic system itself, or the monitor, or the motherboard's fried.

Check if all wires are correctly placed and the other shizzle.

BTW, I've watched every AVGN episode without any problems.
(also, it's the awesomest show ever)

I have had those issues before on one of my old systems.

There is a few causes which I have discovered.

  • A peripheral device is attached, and causing some shit (not often causes an issue)
.
  • Your Motherboard is not being supplied with enough power, the power cable too the Motherboard may be loose or damaged,
.
  • Your graphics card has lost some connection to the motherboard, or the power cable for the GPU is not connected well
.
  • Your PSU (Power Supply) is faulty and supplying to little power
.
  • Your RAM DIMMS (RAM Sticks) are loose or do not have sufficient connection to the Ram Slots
.
  • Last choice and most likely your problem, Your CPU which is more than likely your issue,
When that issue occurs it is due to the CPU not having a proper connection to the pins in the CPU Slot OR the CPU is fried,

Also try check that small square Power Cable connecting to your Motherboard which is close to the CPU and make sure its not loose or damaged aswell.

The reason why I think it is more than likely your CPU which has died is because you said it started "lagging" during tasks,
then later froze up while undergoing a task which will use quite a bit of CPU power (Diagnostic scan),
therefore pointing at the CPU being an issue again, although it may be the connections on the motherboard,
I am certain it is more than likely a CPU issue you have there.
You may have to buy a new CPU due to this because I have a feeling your old one may have overheated and burnt out or just simply fried.

Well I've had the computer for nearly 2 years. I checked most of the hardwares and they're bolted. I'm running on a 500watt and that shouldn't be the issue.

Check the CPU like I said, that is probably your issue.
If you can, try your CPU on another Motherboard, if it doesnt start up, the CPU is dead and its time for a new one.

If nothing is coming up to your screen, try an alternative graphics output and try to reset your BIOS/CMOS settings. Depending on your motherboard manufacturer and model, it may have a jumper for easy BIOS/CMOS reset. Also take a closer eye on your motherboard capacitors, in case any of them has leaked or swelled. If possible, alternative hard drive can be tested.

The only graphic output I have is the card, there's no onboard gfx chip. As for the bios/ Cbo something, I don't know what it looks like and I don't know how to reset it. I also tried looking for the cpu so I'm kinds lost here. I'm not that smart

Re-put CPU, RAM sticks and video card + replug all the cables which goes to motherboard.
I had same problem just a few weeks ago, PC turned on but nothing happened.

If something is fried, you can smell it. Stick you nose into your case, and sniff around the motherboard. Yes, that's what I recomend.
  • Are there any beeps comming from your MB?
  • Do you have a MSI motherboard?
  • Try swopping out your GFX card with an old one, if you have one.
  • If you think your cooling is sufficient within your case, I wouldn't say something has overheated and failed.
  • A RAM failure could be the problem, remove all of them and replace it with one you suspect that works.
  • Have you made any recent changes to your system?

Kind Regards
Sisko White
