I would say 'some people' is correct because most people (where i live anyway) view smokers as mingers. At a certain young age its cool to some people, but after growing up a bit most people have a negative attitude about smoking. I think society's attitude to smoking has greatly improved to what it probably would have been like 20-30 years ago. At least that's one good thing old people can't do in terms of smoking - give out anecdotes that start with 'in my day... blah blah' that end up presenting todays society in a fairly negative light to what it once was.

It is cool to smoke, it just looks cool. But uh yeah it can taste nice too, but I'd rather smoke some weed than nasty tobacco, but I smoke tobacco occasionally. I'll bum cigs, but never buy a pack.

He never said that, he said that in his opinion smoking looks cool. He may smoke for stress or something, but in doing so he also looks cool, in his opinion.
