he True Crime series is finally returning to the videogames as announced by Activision who premiered a stunning debut trailer for the game at the Spike TV Video Game Awards 2009.

Developed by United Front Games in lieu of Luxoflux, the game takes place on the streets of Hong Kong, China and has players taking the role of an undercover agent named Detective Wei Shen who must infiltrate the notorious Triad Gang.

Apparently all of the footage shown below is in-game . . . if that is actually true then this is one heck of a looker. I also think that the Asian setting really sets this game apart from that of the Grand Theft Auto series or any other open-world action game I've seen before.

Here is the debut trailer. The game will release sometime in 2010.

I ment the series in general. I played the L.A. one and the other one whatever it was called! New York?

They are a GTA-type of free-roam game with a couple of karate kicks and jumping in the air in slowmotion blasting some fools... But with worse gameplay.

I played both True Crime games, and i really enjoyed them... however the gameplay is not so enjoyable as the GTA games, but the story.. and the whole idea to be a cop, and have the freedom like in GTA, is great.

I played streets of LA and there was lots of stuff that I liked:
  • The linear but ramified mission line, it gave the game a cinematic feel w/o taking the ability to not do some missions
  • The realistic map, to the point where even with a map, you get lost in some hoods
  • The separated modes os fighting shooting and stealth, something that GTA SA tried to replicate w/o much success, the stealth missions in SA are stupid and the fighting is pretty much tapping the fire button.
  • The Hollywoodesque feeling to the story and game play, it had characters, locations and argument set up like the movies.

But it sucked at:
  • The control modes where very complete but complicated gameplay alot. SA control modes are rubish but at least keep it simple.
  • The car handling sucked big time. And the streets of LA with bumps in every intersection didn't help in any way
  • The city is big, it's LA but has the title suggests you only get the streets to free-roam in, any other location can only be visited in the missions.

This say I hope they try to keep in with what streets of LA was and only trying to improve.

I didn't like to see that jumping from bike to car scene, reminded me of wheelman, which was s***.
