How are the handling and realism in games like these nowadays?

I remember seeing a trailer of Need For Speed back a few years, got inspired, bought the game. However, the game itself wasn't good at all, it was just the trailer being inspiring.

I only loved 3 games of the NFS actually.

Need For Speed Hot Pursuit 2... Need For Speed Most Wanted, and Need For Speed Pro Street.. None else was worth it.. Oh yea, Except Underground on PS2 which I also loved, but sucked on PC.
