I'll make it simple.

I'm browsing any random place at a time between 2:00PM and 5:00PM in my timezone (New York/Washington DC time) via the .eu domain, and all of the sudden, it stops working. My connection would time out. I go to the .com domain, and it works perfectly. When I click something else it goes right back to the temporarily not working .eu domain.

It can't be just me, though, as I've tested the .eu domain during these periods at http://wwww.downforeveryoneorjustme.com.

My suggestions are either:
-Get rid of the .eu domain (likely not going to happen)
-Let the .eu domain go to .eu areas (I click on speakerbox while on .eu, it stays on .eu) and let the .com go to .com areas (I click on speakerbox while on .com, it stays on .com)

www.argonathrpg.eu works for me?

Where must we go... we who wander this Wasteland in search of our better selves?

I have also noticed that same issue happening on a few occasions.

Regarding the solutions: the second part is not likely going to happen as well, unless you hack SMF. Since all major web applications have this stupid solution to keep the site URL in the database, and since all major web applications are made for one domain, you are stuck on having the links open on one domain, even though the pages can be accessed from both. This is because all URLs start with the domain part (e.g. "http://argonathrpg.eu/forum/index.php?...") which makes them absolute, instead of having relative URLs that will work regardless which domain you're looking at (e.g. "/forum/index.php?...").

I have previously made a hack I used to de-retardate a WordPress installation from the same issue (site having two domains, and needs to be accessible from both); it uses PHP's great feature called output buffering, which lets you have control over the complete page or any of its parts if used properly, though I'm not sure how it would scale against a bloated and ugly application like SMF.

I will look in to the issue, however it can be a matter of coincidence.
First of all, if there is a server restart it will happen between 03:00 and 05:00 CET.
secondly, we have noticed more than once that during the evening (between 20:00 and 23:00 CET) the server becomes slow. This is due to the webserver running on a VPS that can be affected by other clients.

When the server load goes too high, it takes some time before all requests are timed out. Then the server start from zero, and suddenly runs faster. This repeats several times during the busy time.
The .eu and .com domains are set up in the exact same way, and point to the same place. This should there for not make any difference.

I'm never around that time :/

It's been around those times, actually.

I've had no problem with the .eu domain, and either way, domain's won't effect the speed of the site or whether it works or not, this all depends on the webserver load, don't forget, this is a large community, so their servers get used a lot, you gotta expect for them to lag at times.

Well of course they don't. But there's obviously something going on if the .eu domain goes on and off at some times and the .com domain works just fine.

Hi MetalLuigiX,

Strange that you are experiencing problems!

Often its not to do with the .eu names, its actually dependant upon the IP ADDRESS!

but names have to be translated via DNS servers or Domain Name Servers.

Have a look at the site opendns (google search) its pretty much guaranteed to fix this kind of problem !

Hope This Helps

Happy Gaming
