Ping, huh, what?

For those didn't know PING (Packet INternet Groper) is a term used for the time it takes to send a package from your computer to the game server and back again to your computer.
This time is also called the latency and is noted in Milli Seconds (ms).
A high PING is #1 source of LAG.
So someone with a PING of 500 has a latency of 0.5 seconds. That means all other players have to wait for that data. What happens to a normal running game while your videocard cant keep it up? You get frame drops. Ur screen begins to hitch. And you wont get a smooth animation, only single frames pushed on your screen. If a players PING is 400? , then expect his position is to be updated every 0.4 seconds.

Anyways, sometimes there are players online with these high PINGs.
They are invincible in Fight Clubs since they hitch from one place to another and they are only "position synced to your screen" once in 0.4 seconds if they have a ping at 400.
You don't see them brake if you drive after them what results in a crash.
If you chase a high pinger and you want to ram his car you probably miss him and crash yourself.
Besides lots of those inconveniences for all other player, high PINGs are often used by hackers.

A PING kick script isn't that much work and it's allways better for a server and his players.
Less PING is one huge step closer to a better server.
PING kick servers are the most fast and lag free servers, its the most simple way to get a server fast.
I have played BF2 for a while and all Good RANKED servers had Auto PING kick, because a single high PINGer can ruin a game for the rest of the players. As far as I know a part of the sync errors are due to a high PING to.

I might sounds a bit furious by now, but since there online games exist, PING has been a large problem for everyone.
How hard It might sound for some of us but if you want to play online games, the get a Proper connection and choose a server not to far away.
In the poll you may say if you think its needed or not.

Probably a PING kick script will not be added to the Argonath server, but its something to be aware of.

600 is quite hight to, I was thinking of 200/300. I think you have to get text warnings for the first PING checks. if ur ping stays high, you will be autokicked.
Because everyone can have a high ping peak.

We have a lot of players from Brazil, US and Australia and some from more exotic places. By setting a ping kicker to 300 we would probably lose them.
As our play is based less on fighting, a high ping does not have to be an objection to play. Only those with high ping should try to be fair and not fight a lot.
Althoug a fight between two guys with high ping can be funny.

Maybe a Pingcheck should be done when a player enters a Fight club or Race event, because there Ping really matters. Normal RP roaming isn't indeed a large problem, but especially in Fight clubs, high pingers are almost Godlike.

Hafford, I might sound a bit bitchy.
Everytime you join a Fight club, you automatically win with your ping (lets say  about 400/500), its unfait for others.
Laggers are almost GodLike, In every way its not fun and fair.
You are not the only one that joins Fight Clubs, and win instantly, but since you posted on this topic and I played a few times with you in Fightclub you might be a perfect example.

If somebody is having a high ping, the first thing to do is try to help him getting it lower. There are some tricks that can improve the ping, and that's only an advantage to everybody.

A ping can be  improve by some things (for example the things I listed in mu first post), but most of the time ping cant be improved by shown solutions. Firewall might be a problem, but solving Ping problems for a player online will not really work. Players are not in for a technical instruction because they wanna play or people doesn't have the knowledge to understand the steps. Its like mopping the floor with the tap open. And the things that do really decrease the ping costs money.
Saving 40 ms with tweaks on a 600 ping has no effect at all.
