Anyone in a Student Union / Student Council? (UK people please)

If so / if you was, or even if you're in a college in the UK; what was your colleges policy on being absent due to religious events such as Diwali, Eid.
For example, would your college EMA people allow you to take off days and still have 100% attendance?.

In my college it's very confusing, I plan on changing this ASAP in the next Student Council meeting, people are not allowed days off for there religious days, such as the recent EID celebration, students where not allowed 3 days off, which is how long it is, they've said to me they do not care for the EMA (Education Maintenance Allowance - all 19 and younger get it ), but there general attendance.

EMA in college can stil be given for absence of leave such as Eid and Diwali, BUT you have to make sure you tell your teacher ato mark you in so you receive it otherwise you wount, atleast thats how it used ot be done when i was in college.

Its just a matter of the teacher marking you in, but only you can take 1 day off, maybe 2 if you are teachers pet.

Curse, basicly here, if you want a day off for a religiouse event you get it, if your told you cannot, then who ever told you that you cant have the day off, gets sued.
Not so long ago a girl in London sued a teacher because the teacher told her to take a religiouse bangle off.
I osme how find sueing for that a bit over the topic as they should be treated equaly eve if they are in a religion or what ever.
