Installation Guide: General Notes

ATTENTION!
Rockstar Games have released a new patch named 1.0.8.0. This causes problems with running IV:MP. It is recommended to check the sticky topics about this matter here.
This guide...

• ..is NOT guaranteed to work;
• ..is ONLY recommended to follow with a LEGAL version of GTA IV;
• ..is made with the operating system Windows 10;
• ..can also be used for the operating systems Windows 7 and 8;
• ..is NOT tested to work with the operating system iOS;
• ..is NOT tested with Steam;
• ..shows you how to install GTA IV, the 1.0.7.0 patch and IV:MP.

Installation Guide: Installing GTA IV and patch 1.0.7.0

Step 1:
After you have completely installed Grand Theft Auto IV, you can start with this guide. It is NOT required to have an Rockstar Games Social Club account or Windows Live account.

Step 2:
After you have successfully installed GTA IV, restart your PC. This is to make sure your PC fully installed your GTA and avoid problems further in this guide.

Step 3:
It is now required to install the patch. Please check step 3a to see what to do with the Steam version, and step 3b to see what to do with a CD version of GTA IV.

• Step 3a:
  STEAM VERSION: Your Steam version of GTA IV comes with patch 1.0.8.0. It is needed to downgrade it to 1.0.7.0 in order to play IV:MP. To see how to downgrade, check this topic. If you come across any problems, please reply in this topic.

• Step 3b:
  CD VERSION: Download patch 1.0.7.0 and open the zipped file. This patch comes with the following files:
  - 'Media1.cab'
  - 'Patch7Notes_EN.TXT'
  - 'TitleUpdate.msi'
  - 'UpdateTitle.exe'
  
  Double click on 'UpdateTitle.exe' and locate your Grand Theft Auto IV folder. The patch may take a while to install but let it run. It will finish eventually.

Step 4:
Change the settings of the following files to Windows 7, and run as administrator:
- 'GTAIV.exe'
- 'LaunchGTAIV.exe'

Step 5:
Restart your PC.

Step 6:
Run 'LaunchGTAIV.exe' and just run the game like you would by playing singleplayer. This means driving around with your comrade Roman to ensure it does not crash or show any problems. If the game does not start, xlive.dll may be required to have in your Grand Theft Auto IV folder.

Step 7:
If no problems occur in playing the game and it starts just fine, go on to the next step. you can continue to installing IV:MP.



Installation Guide: Installing IV:MP

Step 1:
Download the IV:MP client.
(Official link www.iv-mp.eu)

Step 2:
Save the client on your computer and open the .rar file.

Step 3:
You will see a couple of files:
- 'IVMP-0.1-T3.exe'
- 'License.txt'
- 'ReadMe.txt'

Double click on 'IVMP-0.1-T3.exe' and the installation of IV:MP will start.

Step 4:
Locate your Grand Theft Auto IV file and install the client.

Step 5:
After you have installed IV:MP, start it up. There is no specific action needed here. IV:MP will normally open within 15 seconds (this may depend on your computer speed).

Step 6:
As soon as the client has started, you will see a couple of options:
- 'Server Browser' (not working)
- 'Quick Connect'
- 'Settings'
- 'Credits'
- 'Quit'

Click on "Settings".

Step 7:
Under "Name", fill in your name you want to use ingame. This is not really needed because players who join Argonath register their own account.

Step 8:
You cannot use the server browser because of the client limitations. Thats you you will need to quick connect to the Argonath server. Click on "Quick Connect" and fill in the IP adress of Argonath under "IP Address" (argonath.iv-mp.eu:9999).

Step 9:
You are able to change the font used by IV:MP under the "Settings" tab. Tahoma-Bold is the standard font that is used.

Step 10:
Your game will now start (normally takes about 15-30 seconds).

Step 11:
Login to your existing account or create a new one (multiaccounting is not allowed!) by using /login <accountname> <password> or /register <accountname> <password>

Step 12:
You will now be spawned at either Francis International Airport for new users or at your last logout location for existing accounts.

Step 13:
For the new players: follow the tutorial to get used to the server and check the sticky topics in this forum and on this wiki page.

Notice to all those viewing. You do not need RGSC once you install Patch 7!
It can only bring unnecessary problems. If you intent to play the standard version of MP, install it. If you aim to play IV:MP only, I recommend you not to.

I must add the Guide does especially work with Win7 as it has the most complications on installing for IVMP! If you dont start game before installing the patch - Your game wont run on Win7 and returns Errors!

I have many problems with my 7. Compatibility mode should work on some PCs and solve the problem. I play my game on Windows Vista mode.

For those who don't know how to set compatibility mode on application here you are a fast guide:

1. First go to your IV:MP shortcut or EXE.
2. Right click with mouse on icon then click on "Properties".
3. Select the "Compatibility" tab.
4. Now put a check if there isn't on "Run this program in compatibility mode for:".
5. Then after this in the drop down list you can choose among Windows XP SP3, Windows Vista (SP1/2). I use Vista.

NOTE: Windows XP SP2 or older versions won't work.

This should work on other Windows (XP/Vista) but most of them are not requiring such setting. The game should run well on them.

If you have 3GB or less memory, you'll run faster on XP.

Wayne, I think Frank means if he changes his Compatibility Mode to another OS will it change his games running, which is No.
As hAWK posted about compatibility modes.

If you had to format and install Windows XP then it would be better as Wayne has said.

Yeah compatibility mode can't make the game run faster. It is used only when you have problem with running/starting application not with the performance.

Not a stupid question at all.
You can take snapshots using F10. Go to the Grand Theft Auto IV directory, you'll see a "IVMP" Folder. Once inside the "IVMP" folder, you'll see another folder named "Screenshots"
