Well this has been an Issue forever... People's accounts getting hacked. I think it is time that some of us realize that we have been here long enough to be called "Influential People" and people are showing the bad side of themselves and trying to ruin our reputations. Trust me when I say this... they may not be bad people like some people think.. they may just be confused or angry and don't know how to properly deal with those feelings...

Recently IMunna got "Hacked" which really is not a hack.. I just wanted to re-state what all the Administration are told and what the Higher Ups always say.... Don't use your Argo Password / Forum Password on any other servers or for anything else... and never give it out. I recommend having a Different password for the forums and check your computer for viruses and for Key Loggers. Do all this and make sure you are monitoring your email for the forum informing you of attempts and you should be all set.

Good Luck

Tips to Remember

  • Only Use your Password for this game (IG/Forums)
  • Check your Email to see if someone is attempting to access your account.
  • Scan your Computer for Viruses / Malicious Software Often.
  • Never Give out your password for any reason.
  • For the Best results don't use a password that has any connections to you Examples of what not to use  (School Comp Password / School Id / Login to work / MSN / Email / License Plate)

Just another tip.
Even on Argonath NEVER use the same password twice.
Use a different password for each game, forums and ARPD and/or group forums. That way if one account is compromised, the hackers are not able to get in to all your accounts.

That was really not the goal but I did change it up a little so it is easier.

Another way of securing your password is this:

Personally, I use this method as it is very safe (at times). Go to any MD5, Sha1, or Sha256 generator and use it. For example:
The password is, "iloveargo" would turn into:
Code: [Select]
e8e99f3b92682e562328b37906e7ecc1. One letter or capitalization difference would totally make a new sum, example: "iloveArgo" =
Code: [Select]
596191dc6cc91aeb2dd741aa9ce2932b And the beauty of this is that there is a very hard level of deciphering needed to break the code. Another great part is that in almost any amount of text, it will always be 32 hexadecimal numbers. So for example, "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy red dog. Nathan Aldebourne............................. ....................................... .." will turn into:
Code: [Select]
5b396f7349b00031db4fcf61b3aa8959.One period more and the new sum turns to this:
Code: [Select]
53eba31152e7f35048a1b4064e4ffc8e
Personally, I use this site for the conversions.

Code can be decrypted - will only give a lil'bit more work to the hijacker.
A keylogger would bypass this easily - best method: use your brain.

Just me and myself..

I am glad to see someone has made a topic like this.
It is important to use a different password for each site you use, especially if vital information is on it.
And I suggest you dont use the same password for Argo servers as you do on other servers/sites.

Simple password tip (for those who CBA with Nathan's tip...)

1. Start with a "base password" (e.g., argonathissexy)
2. Convert all or some of the letters into l33tspeak (e.g., 4rg0n47h1553xy or 4rg0nath1ss3xy)
3. Mix it up... capitalize some letters, maybe even space out some words (e.g., 4rG0n47H1553xY or 4rg0n47h 1553xy) - Try mixing it up
4. Throw in some "spice"... favorite color, least favorite color, favorite fetish, genital length, etc, and convert that to leetspeak (e.g., 4rG0n47H1553xY81U34ndR3D)
5. Jumble it up and you get...
4rG0 n47H15 53x Y81u34 nDr3D
(Argo nathis sex ybluea ndred, in case you can't make it out ;) )

If you are planning on changing all of your passwords, get a notepad, and write all your passwords down.Make sure no one finds it.(friends, or even relatives)

What I do is use a base password, and the notepad file just tells me what I need to do to the base password for various different logins. At no point in the file does it ever actually show my password.

Here's my tip :
Imagine a very dumb password like "Apple" or "Water" or w/e

Or simply.. Use your brain and have common sense.

In that case it may have been someone who typed their user name wrong and it is close to yours, or someone was attempting a password that they believed you used... I wouldn't be too concern unless they attempted multiple times... in that case I would make my password more complex... but scan your comp just to be safe.
