Either Avira or AVG. Used both for more than 2 years each. Avira always notifies you of updates installed and also advertise windows pop up sometimes.
So thats why i think AVG is superior. Never had ANY problems with it. You dont need to set anything up either. Just install and your ready to go.

Avast has the best detection rate for a free AV, but if you want I can give you a key to pretty much any AV.

So far I know a few good virusscanners:

Kaspersky
Malwarebytes Anti Malware (MBAM)
Avast

These 3 can be downloaded in a free version and are tested and approved to be giving one of the best protection to virusses.

You can get NOD32/ESS as a 30 days trial on official website. If you like it,you can add a key later.

Its just another rip off..I dont use that shit i have a full cabinet of medicin no viirus stands a chance with my bad ass cabinet :D

The sounds can be turned off in the Avast settings.

Comodo firewall/intersecurity, it's free and i have been virus free for 7-8 months :)
