I wanted to try my home Community out first before trying these 'tech' sites available.

Processor: AMD Athlon II x4 640 3.0GHZ

What sort of overclock could I attain without increasing the Voltage supplied to it?

Thanks

Julio/Joe

Imposible to say.. each processor is different. Some people have got 3.8ghz in stock voltage and i cant even get 3.4ghz stable.

You have this processor? :o

II do however know that each bit of Hardware is different   online, some people have slightly different bus speeds, I have 200.9 stock, others are 200.7  :hah:

Thats true, but its also true that each of em must go at 3.5GHz and above :) You didnt do everything well obviously. You raised processor Voltage? You reduced memory clocks/multiplier? You raised memory Voltage?

I easily got to boot into windows and play at 3.5ghz. But after 10 minutes of Linx it crashed.
That means its not a stable overclock. And its probably because of 1333mhz RAM. Should of got 1600mhz so i can lower the RAM multiplier and keep raising the FSB while still keeping RAM over 1333mhz

And no i dont have a 640. I have an X3 445. But its the same chip. I can even enable the 4th core if i wanted. But its not stable either, thats probably why AMD disabled one core of this propus die (Athlon II X4) and sold it as an triple core. Instead of throwing it in the incinerator just because one core has issues.

Actually most of those Cores can be unlocked :) Its much less of those who cannot. Try to unlock just cache/cash memory if you motherboard allows that option.

Its only on Athlon 2's and Phenom 2's. And as i said i already have succeeded in unlocking my 4th core. But it was unstable.

What do you mean by this?
And no they wouldnt turn a Phenom II x6 into a Athlon II x3.. or even a Athlon II x4.

They wouldnt do that with II X6 but they do it with II X4 and X3. In so many reviews i read,i realized that cores can be unlocked in more cases that cases where they cant. Even sometimes those who are unlocked have much better OC potencial than those "default" ones.. Like i said, check out if your motherboard supports only cash/cache memory unlocking, because sometimes when core doesent work well cash memory still can be unlocked.

No it doesnt. Only options are Advanced Clock Calibration and Unlock CPU Core. Those make this chip an Athlon II x4
But since its a PROPUS DIE. Not Deneb. There doesnt exist any L3 Cache.
L3 is only on Denebs (Phenom II)
