The RS5 reset

Sure there have been some topics about this, but this one will be containing some different questions.
Let's start off, I have read that we can have a whole new Argonath and lose everything, or keep everything and have RS4 with a few changes. Let's see, why can't we keep everything and have a whole new world? And there is nothing bad about RS4 ATM.

Also why should we get a reset? I know people, like myself, that have been playing on this community loyal, for years to get where we are now. And then suddenly you lose everything? People who reply on this like: You only play on Argonath for the money blah blah.
This is not true, Argonath is a roleplaying server. Roleplaying groups will lose their HQ and other assets. This way groups will close and the RP will be gone also. Also people will leave because of this, less players because of the restart.

^ After all that I said above, why do we need a restart? It will only bring conflicts..

If you would actually bother to read the rest, you would understand the thing.
Money is needed for roleplaying groups etc. You need some things like your very own house for a good RP.
Gangs/Mafia's need their HQ/hood for their RP.

No, they do not. Yet it will be good if they got interiors to role-play inside of, but it's not as needed as you think.

Let's take a look at mafia's. Every single mafia has their HQ. Colombo, Gvardia, Corleone, Stracci. This is for a reason.

Businesses of a mafia are also a part of their income.
Let's take a look from 2 other sides.
1. Completely new people that gain money faster in some way, will run to buy the family HQ's, ammunations etc.
2. Why is this reset actually needed at all?

It is time to end the speculations, which we have allowed in order to see how the community will react.

First of all, the idea to make a full reset for RS5 has been mine, with support of Gimli.
The reason is that we want to make a new account system, that will make it easier to get information and protect against intrusions and hacks. For this, we would need to make a major operation regarding the current accounts, as the old data would have to be read in to the new system, with chances of errors.
If there would be a small error, it would mean us spending days or weeks to sort out who has what, instead of fixing script bugs and updating new features.

The problem is of course that we should give something in return. For those who remember 2007, we made that time a loan system so players could open a business with little money, and made sure there was extra man power to set all houses in short time.

If we choose a full reset, then that does not mean active and old players will lose their name or automatically lose their long-standing business. However it will mean that those players who are not active will lose out, in favour of the active players.

How exactly this will be done is something we do not know yet, as most of it is at this time just an idea brewing in my mind. But rest assured, wwhen the time comes you will be informed and get all chances to retain landmarks.

We will now close all reset topics, until the time RS5 will go in to beta testing. Before that time, you have nothing to worry about.

Issue with today on the server is that we have to MUCH cheated weapons/drugs/cash that have entered that the administration haven't confiscated due various reasons.. I do not point out any specific person but that im sure almost all players have cheated assets on them even if they haven't cheated it themselves.. I see Gandalf's quote above now which explains it all!
