So as you can guess, somehow some of my important folders including work folders have gotten corrupt somehow.

When I try open any of the folders I get this message:

If I click "Continue" I receive this message:

Anyone have any ideas or solutions to solve this?

Right click ---> Run as adminstrator

If not, then I have no idea, sorry :(

Read the instructions on the message. Life is so simple if you not just look, but see as well.

I have tried the instructions, clicked on the Security Tab which doesnt help at all.

After clicking in the Security Tab:

After clicking on Advanced:

If I click on any of those top headings, I get the exact same message saying
"You do not have permission to view or edit this object's permission settings"

BEFORE DOING THIS ENSURE YOU HAVE ANTI VIRUS AND FIREWALL WORKING AND UP TO DATE!!
Turn user account control off using the method below to ensure it is not an issue with permissions:
1.) Press winkey+R
2.) Type cmd
3.) In Command Prompt, type control nusrmgr.cpl
4.) Click Turn User Account Control on or off
5.) In the security dialogue, click continue.
6.) Untick the let UAC protect your computer box, and click OK
7.) It should probably ask you do you wish to restart for the changes to take effect, so click Yes.
8.) After restart, try again.
9.) IF IT WORKS: Try changing the permissions on it
IF IT DOESN'T: I have no idea
10.) After trying weather successfully or not, Turn UAC back on using the same method. This will keep things (somewhat) secure.

After quite a lot of help from Gandalf and your help Brad, I seem to have figured out the problem and managed to get it running again with some messing around.

Glad to have access back to all of the items once again.
Thanks all for the help.

I also turn it off as soon as I install Windows 7, but mysteriously, by me putting it back on,
it allowed me to access my files again, because it gave me the option to change file "owners".

I still think that UAC is the single worst thing ever invented, I just can't stand the notifications I get when its off, and the bugs it brings to be off.
Its too safe, really.

The Idea of UAC is not to be annoying but is to be overprotective, remember there is settings you can adjust to make it popup less, the thing is, if you get a virus or get hacked, it will not allow them to do anything without an OK from you. basically it is microsofts answer to the Spider bot Zombies of XP.

as of May 2010 there was still 2.6million Zombie PC's of which 96% were running the insecure XP without any UAC

remember turning this off is like turning off your firewall, it may be annoying, but it does this for a reason.

I consider reformatting a new start for your computer (although it literally is) and lets you follow different opportunities. It's something you'd rather not do, but eventually, you'll say "Well, this is much better."
