He's a sleeper-OP AP mid like Viktor. However, AP mids are a bit shit compared to AD mids at the moment.

Why the fuck would you get Boots of Mobility?

Avarice blade to get moar gold and then sell it for moar gold
Berseker boots or however they're called
Bloodthirster to show them who's da boss and for these stacks, not sure if they still exist
Phantom Dancer to move faster and hunt them
Infinity Edge well you know, to kill everything that stands on your way
And get Spirit Visage or something, doesn't matter.

If you bought this already well the game is won and you can just lol around

To move around the map faster. Yi's ult (which you'll be doing 100% of the time when you engage) makes up for the in-combat movement speed loss.

And why sell Avarice Blade? ;_;
It builds into one of the best items in the game for Yi.

A BT is a situationally viable alternative to Hydra in my build, I'll agree with that. Everything else is basically how to be pro as heck.

as yi is played in jungle in the current meta, you don't really need bt or hydra. they are useless when you're trading. you gotta choose between those two: youmuu ghostblade or blade of the ruined king. with botrk you get sustain, a little bit of CC and a good dmg. youmuu gives you a good crit and movement speed which can help you in escaping/killing someone/destroying turrets. also avarice blade gives you a good amount of gold.
