Installed more RAM, got BSOD

Hi der.

Ok so this is what happened.
Last week I bought 2gb of ddr2 ram, brand new.
I went home and installed the ram and started using my PC.
But after some time it suddenly shut down and got BSOD.
First I thought it was because I had a virus, since my brother had just downloaded a game wich contained a trojan.
So I decided to re-install windows, 64bit.
But  the problem still persists, it just happend randomly.

Specs
Mobo: MSI G31TM-P35
RAM: Kingston Valueram 2gb ddr2 - KVR800D2N6/2G  , They only got a .pdf format with information wich can be found on this page
CPU: Intel Pentium DualCore E6700
GPU: Sapphire HD5670 1gb gddr5
PSU: Cooler Master Real Power W520

Drivers:
Mobo: latest
Bios: latest
GPU: latest
Sound: latest
keyboard driver wasn't required, but sumhow FN keys do work :<
Same fore mouse.

This might contribute to finding an answer:
I updated my graphics card driver at around the same time I got the new RAM.
And on Sapphire's website it says 'Hyper Memory Support', wich could maybe eat all my ram?

Also, while i put in the 2nd stick of RAM, wich has a defualt speed of 800mhz.
My first stick of ram, was running at 902mhz, i don't know if that is a probz?



I hope this is fixable since otherwise it would be pretty fked up :<

Not directly, but it could be contributing to it, the only speeds this board support are DDR2 667/800. So over clocking it could cause errors.

No, hyper is a technology which emulates using more ram than it actually is, as is doubles up on certain parts of the ram.

What's the error code the BSOD is providing?

It could simply be faulty ram.

You can most likely get rid of that problem by switching off the M$ Indexing service.
Select Start/Run ant type in: services.msc and hit Enter.
Scroll down till you find "Indexing Service". Right-click it, Stop it and set it to Disabled.
Reboot, and you should be happy.

Ok I don't know what I did, but I haven't had a blue screen since the time I posted this.
Also, I couldn't find Indexing Service but if the problem persists, I will take a closer look, perhaps it's 'Windows Indexing Service'.

Next BSOD appeared:


I'm now going to get out my first stick of RAM and put the 1 I bought in the first slot, see if it works.
I think my gets BSOD when my system uses over 2gb of RAM, if this is the case, it is obviously faulty RAM, wich I will then return to the store.

Post Merge: June 15, 2011, 12:12:43 amOk, I don't think my RAM slot is broken, I have just changed my virtual memory to 4095 * 1.5 = 6142, as was recommended by Windows.
It was at 4096 before I edited.
Perhaps this had something to do with BSOD's?

This Error is different to the other Screenshot, maybe its working it out by itself?

On my old laptop, I had BSOD all the time, then it just stopped.

The RAM will Automatically run at the Speed of the lowest Stick, should not be a problem.

Hyper Memory means it can be Dual Channeled. This means instead of having both sticks having one street with data travelling up AND down them. You have data travelling one direction through one stick, and another direction through the other. That's the simplest way of describing this. This would not be a problem as you actually have to enable it in the BIOS.

Ok so I decided to run Memtest86 and it showed up with over 300errors.
I was running it for 8 hours straight and it wasn't even finished yet(sumwhere at 83%), ill run some tests with only the new 1 in the system as well, lets see what happens.

Go into bios and put the voltage of the ram to what is specified on the sticks themselves, not AUTO. Also do you have any other ram besides this in it?

Ok so I ran memtest86 today with the old stick in ram slot1 and slot 2.
It didn't show anything, now i put the new stick in and i got errors within seconds in both slot.

And what I saw was rather strange, memtest says what kind of ram you got, DDR1 DDR2 DDR3.
So when i ran a test in slot 1, it said DDR2, but in slot 2 DDR3, i did not however, change any results.

It seems the ram I bought is broken so I'll bring it back to the stores.

Ohyea, and when you look at the ram, 1 stick looks darker then the other 1.

Colour should not matter.

Do all of the slots etc on each stick match?

I ran a system Stability Test on my PC and it only went through about 15 percent before crashing, but it works fine

I'm running my system with 2gb of RAM atm, will probally see that it won't crash, and I will return the other stick tomorrow and order new 1.

sometimes certain ram does not work well with other ram, if you are buying ram, your better off buying a set of ram rather than adding another single stick

I could at least stick to the same company etc.

I ave two sticks of identical RAM, same batch number, but for some reason one is taller than the other by about 2-3 cm. I run them dual channel though and they work. Dunno what happened there xD

Ok so I returned it to the stores, and I got the same module but a different brand, and it feels a bit heavier but atleast no BSOD's, woooh!
