roleplay both whenever you want. I personally roleplay
1. A slightly mentally unstable mafia leader whose skill with his tongue alone gets him out of tight situations
2. A demonically possessed guy
3. A retarded idiot
4. An insane low-level criminal who kidnaps people for personal amusement and torturing him only to later drop his gun in the face of a police officer
And tons more. Just pick according to the situation. You aren't bound to one character.

Or another good thing, if you feel desperately bored and out of creativity, you could simply 'continue' movie characters.
For example : Scarface's movie was showing the obvious death of Tony Montana, which was shown otherwise in the game.
