Re-installed Windows XP on my PC, now it can't reocognize my modem/router

So this morning, I re-installed windows XP because it was really laggy and my PC became slow.. After re-installing it, I ran it as an adminstrator (Like I always do) and as I was about to plugin my modem, it couldn't recognize it.. I even tried to try with my wire-less internet. That didn't either work so I tried to google the problem and find answers, but I couldn't.. And I've somewhat of forgotten how to fix that kind of stuff since it was a long time ago I did this and figured out the most of it.

So if anyone of you guys knows what may cause it, feel free to tell me.

How do you expect your PC to be able to form a network connection when it doesn't even know how?
Download the drivers for your motherboard / GPU from dah Internet - Windows XP can't install drivers automatically like Windows 7.

Have you found the drivers that you need? If not use a program that can read the hardware and it will state the Brand and model of your motherboard.

There aren't much programs, that can read brand and model without drivers.

If it's an older system, try a lighter web browser. That may help a little with the loading speed.

Well, I got quite alot of school projects on this one but the laptop itself isn't that old, I think it's from 2011 or so, not too sure about it. But what I think is, that it has alot of program/other files that are taking space and stuff.

As long as they aren't all running at once and your hard drive doesn't need to be defragmented, then you shouldn't be slowed down by just having a lot of files in there. Something else is likely causing that then.
