Life in Argonath - A collection of short stories by JDC

Greetings.

Earlier, after going through a shit load of paperwork on certain Argonath forums, I decided to take a break. As one of my favorite pastimes was writing, I decided to write some short stories that some of our Argonath players would be able to relate to. Since I am not very much a fan of being overly serious, I decided they would be comedy stories.

The Black Sentinel

  The contents of his folder. The gunshot wounds in his leg. The mafiosi scouts who were probably searching for him throughout the city. Many of these thoughts were rushing through the head of the officer, who was speeding in a black sentinel through the streets of Los Santos, towards the Headquarters of the Los Santos Police Department, publicly known as LSPD. In that building, he knew, the SAPD Chief was waiting for him.

And he had to get there fast.

  What the civilians watching him speed by did not know, is that the officer who appeared to be driving in an almost oddly drunk manner, was carrying something of vital importance to the Argonath Government. The folder in the sentinel's back seat held heavily incriminating information against the Corleone Mafia, notorious as one of the most influential crime families in the state of San Andreas. The long white folder was stained with blood... not the blood of the officer, but of the poor mafioso who was just unlucky enough to be guarding the information room when the infiltration happened.

  It all began several months ago, although things took a turn for the worse only a few hours earlier. In what was one of the riskiest deep-cover infiltration operations conducted by the San Andreas Metropolitan Police Department (publicly known as SAPD, with the assistance of FBI), the officer succeeded in stealing incriminating files from a heavily-guardede Corleone Mafia installation located in western Los Santos, inside one of the heavily-built buildings in Rodeo. Specifically, it was one of those buildings built by the mafia with an extra-thick cement ceiling, which made it immune to any of the government's aerial bombings.

  The officer spent months infiltrating the Corleones, by getting close to several of its associates and soldiers, working his way through until he gained the trust of a caporegime. When the time was right, the officer broke into the capo's headquarters, killed him and his bodyguards, and made a quick run for his life while the forces of SAPD, FBI, MGI, and several other law-enforcement agencies moved in to engage the remaining Corleones and their associates. At the time, the Don of the Corleones summoned several of the other crime families for one of their occasional "meetings", meaning the ensuing bloody struggle between the criminals and the government forces turned out to be a long, bloody battle, with hundreds of casualties on both sides.

  Months of hard work, months of risking his life, months of sleepless nights... and today was the day. He knew that once he handed in the files to Chief Caltson, it would all be over. The Corleones could finally be prosecuted in court, and wiped out from the United States of Argonath. The streets would finally be safe to walk in again. The sacrifice of his comrades would not be in vain.

  While the officer was immersed in his thoughts, he neglected to notice that a white-colored van (or was it a truck?) suddenly appeared from the right side. It was running towards his direction at full speed, and it was too late when he finally noticed.

  The result was a deadly collision where the black sentinel exploded instantly, and the officer flung out of the windshield unto the roadside. The force of the impact crushed the officer's left arm, broke several of his ribs, and damaged his vital organs. Unless he could receive even some impromptu first aid, it would be too late for him.

  The officer tensed for a deep breath, each inhalation of air bringing pain along with much-needed oxygen. He thought of getting up, although his efforts provoked no response from his legs except for a sharp, jabbing pain in his right leg. Being a previous student of nursing at the Market General Hospital, he knew that one or more of his spinal cord's vertebrae were possibly broken, an injury that could leave him paralyzed for life.
 
  As he struggled to move his body which lay mangled on the sidewalk, he noticed a man stepping out from the driver's seat of the white vehicle. At first, he thought the mafia have finally found him, although what he could make out of the man through his slowly dimming vision proved otherwise, as he was wearing a certain attire, not the plaid Italian suits typically worn by the members and associates of the mafia.

  The man began taking slow steps towards the officer. Was he a friend? Was he an enemy? Regardless of the facts, the officer knew one thing. He had to get up, he had to get out of this place... there were lives at stake and files to be delivered. However, the only parts of his body he could move properly were his head and his arms.

  Exerting a strenuous amount of effort, the officer began crawling towards a nearby telephone post; every single telephone post in the Greater Los Santos Area held direct communication lines to LSPD that every officer could use in case of an emergency. As he tried to ignore the extreme pain, he felt something snap inside of his body. He knew that he would not last much longer, meaning he had to get to the telephone post so another officer could come for the files within mere minutes of his last call.

  However, by this time, the man had reached his side, and stooped down for a look. The officer stopped crawling for a moment, and did not notice any response from the man, who just kept looking at him. Wiping some of the blood away from his eyes, he strained to get a focus on the man.

The man's lips finally opened, and he uttered a single word.

"HEAL???"

As the officer's last breaths of life died away, the last sight he beheld was the medic in uniform, staring down at him.

I imagined something like a slumber & suspense music being played as I read it and the record skipped when the medic said HEAL???

I was actually contemplating centralizing the stories around Argonath's most hated negative stereotypes, and the HEAL??? Medic was the first that came to mind.
