United States DOJ to Sue Apple over price-fixing

Recently the DOJ (United States' Department of Justice) announced its plan to take a law suit against the company Apple, as well as several others over a scheme attempt to price-fix e-books on the new IPAD and other devices. This includes major companies who took part in the master plan costing consumers tens of millions of dollars according to the Department of Justice.

I don't know how many of you use E-Books, but I have and I've paid for a quite a few with Amazon, this makes me quite furious that they would take such an action against people who they already make billions off yearly. I wounder what happens to apple now.. What do you think about all of this ?

Apple has a shitload of money, if they close down their company then they will have a unlimited supply of money till they die.
It doesnt matter if they make a few millions less, but it matters a lot to the people who will have ebooks made a lot cheaper.

Umm...odd question. If the Department Of Justice is the one that makes arrests and prosecutes criminals, how the hell are they going to sue Apple and the other companies? It just seems a tad ironic and biased since they are the ones that would be handling the court case itself.

Since when does the DOJ appoint judges ?

They don't, but in criminal prosecutions, they are the "plaintiffs", so to speak. Usually they represent the United States, though. I've never actually seen them take someone to court and represent themselves as part of the prosecution. I just find it a bit silly to be honest.

The DOJ as plaintiff determines if the reports sent by the police force are enough ground to prosecute the defendent and bring them in front of courts. As such they are not doing anything out ofthe ordinary now.
Instead of the police force they received a report from the organization that watches over freedom of competition, and if they feel the reports offer enough ground, they bring the case to Court.

Its true about the Sue happy thing, there was a thief I treated for a broken leg who is currently trying to sue the owner of the house he broke into for the injury. People are so materialistic these days.

The DOJ represents The People. No difference in this case, unless the DOJ is claiming to have personally lost money.

This is why I am a big fan on Americas rule. If an intruder enters your home you have the legal right to use deadly force(Its something along this) instead of if the intruder so much as gets a scratch on him he will sue you blind.

That actually varies by state, and there are special circumstances which have to be met to make it legal. Even then, if a criminal breaks in and gets hurt, and they sue you, chances are they will still win under some kind of stupid neglect law.
