It's a shame money is wasted on weapons and mass destruction tools, while they can be used to develop the country and fight poverty which is about 40% in India, no offense.
None taken. It's completely true.

actually thats not true at all, if you look at India budget billions of dollars are being rolled out, sadly the amount that makes it to the target audience is negligible to the original amount, and that wont change whether we spend millions billion trillions or quadrillions...

while China is constantly intruding into Indian territory, and at this rate chances of war are very high and india's chances are success are very low, if anything more money needs to go to the military.

Everyone is corrupt in india, even the people who the money goes to.
The people who are seen begging on airports, are actually having a higher montly earning than more Indians who work in I.T....

Also Chinease media...i wonder why we would hide that our missle is having a longer range when our objective to China is to tell that that we have long range missles in the first place..

Shh, the I.T. guys might see that and become beggars at airports.

Jokes aside, is it really necessary for India to prioritize military strength over fighting poverty?

The most important part is interacting with others and meeting people from around the world.

"One imposes his own system as far as his army can reach".

No offense, but pacifism isn't going to take you anywhere but a grave like that of John Lennon. Cut spendings on expansion of military power and tech, invest it all on people. Yes, very nice - you might get yourself a Nobel Prize or the UN might eventually gift you a clown nose. The next day you find yourself out of all the power you had...

Wow USA and Russia are providing India with weapons? I think US should keep their weapons to theirselves after previous events (If you know what I'm talking about)..
They aren't ''providing'' they are selling, because we pay them in return.

It's a shame money is wasted on weapons and mass destruction tools, while they can be used to develop the country and fight poverty which is about 40% in India, no offense.
Not really, If you look at it, India has budget of billions of dollars, India has more than 5 billionaires in the world's richest list, more than any other country. And India has not hundreds but thousands of millionaires as well! Ranked 3rd in the world after USA and another country.

The real problem with India is not how much we spend on weapons, or constructing bridges or what so ever the plans are. The problem is corruption. The public pays taxes, The government allots funds to make roads etc of the area, The engineer appointed by government eats up about 80% of the money himself and uses the rest to make a road which would break again in next 6 months so he can gain more money. That's the main reason even the littlest plan of ours taken about 100s of million if not less.

If we take example of the Commonwealth games which took place in Delhi, India in 2010, The chairman of Olympic Committee of India was arrested for corruption of millions of dollars , He lived in a Air conditioned jail, Had his assets seized , MAYBE. But was the money ever recovered? Nope. Because its already in swiss banks and the guy is rest assured with millions of dollars after his retirement.

In recent elections which took place just 2 days ago, facts have came out that 51% of the chosen MLAs are Millionaires, 21% are illiterate and 9% have criminal background. That's the Indian politics.

Its a fact Indians have about Rs 65223 trillion of black money deposited in their Swiss bank accounts, more than any other nation. That's ought to be around some 700 trillion dollars if converted in US dollars. And that's just a slight view on how powerful corruption is in India. Poverty is everywhere not only in India, Even US has beggers and people living under bridges and dark streets.

And Dolfa, tho a good debate question is always welcome. The last time we checked it was Greece suffering from economic crisis, No offense.  :devroll:

I'm sure the world would back India up against power hungry China.

There is a difference between Greece and India..

We have an awful economy, but a better lifestyle

India may have a great economy, but a worst lifestyle

As once Cofi once said, how is this possible?

The case is probably rapid population growth of India and large corruption as you mentioned.

None taken. Developing a country isn't about spending it on civilians, but developing public services, fighting corruption, which is already large, higher level of education, reasearch, new technologies, better health care and wage increases, agriculture and other investments on local industries. Ofcourse and defense budget has to remain reasonable but right now India is not involved in any war and I definitely don't see one coming, so their missile program could have waited a while.

Typo on worst, ment to be worse

What I ment is that despite having worse economy than yours, our minimum wage is better than yours (we may have higher prices on products than you, food etc) but the people act differently here, they still manage to go out, have a nice life and spend a lot of money. Of course and I won't compare Greece to India, as you have 120 times our population and you're country is based on agriculture more than industry, correct me if I am wrong though :P

I'm a greek aswell and I can fully agree to what Dolfa said about Greece. We can't compare Greece with India as they are such different countries in culture and more, though.

 True facts, If I have to accept Greeks have more fun than the Indians it indeed is true. Though our culture is very very close, With both Greece and India being famous for their historical gods more than anything. But while for you, A good fun time means going on a week long vacation and observe the beautiful scenes of nature, even a weekend outing is hard and enough for us.
