Northern California Shooting/Carjacking Suspect Causes Massive Manhunt

Some breaking news popped up about four hours ago in my state, California, in the United States. Apparently around 6:00 A.M. local time, a man got into a shootout at a local business in the city of Davis. Police responded as the suspect carjacked a man at gunpoint while opening fire on officers, leading them on a pursuit down Interstate 80, a very large freeway in the United States. During the pursuit, he continued to open fire before crashing the vehicle and fleeing into brush alongside the freeway. So far up to this point, over half a dozen Northern California Police and Sheriff Departments, as well as the California Highway Patrol, have all stepped in to aid in the manhunt. There are also dozens upon dozens of SWAT teams involved, and the National Guard is now foot-patrolling the freeway, which has been closed for several miles, and is backing up vehicles at a standstill in both directions for nearly 50 miles.

As to why so many agencies are involved in this manhunt for this suspect is unknown, but at this time they are claiming that it's due to his continuance of being armed and willing to shoot any officers, which have yet to find him in the area.

As stated, this incident is still in progress. Even more officers are still heading on-scene from all over the northern part of the state. It is estimated that over 200 officers are involved up to this point, not counting National Guard or SWAT. They do not specify whether this also includes the California Highway Patrol or not.

Responding from my phone, but it appears there has been another vehicle jacked just a mile from the freeway. Confirmed seven agencies and, over 300 officers involved now at three crime scenes.

It is indeed quite surprising. Given the situation, though, and the number of recently killed officers in California, I can see why they aren't taking any chances.

As an update, they have discovered that the man has since carjacked a farm tractor to sneak under the freeway causeway to the second vehicle which was also carjacked, but at gunpoint and included an assault of the owner and they have confirmed it was him. The freeway was reopened after 6 hours of being closed, and the second stolen vehicle was found in North Sacramento, right by where I live...(about 10 minutes away, over by my mom's house). Since that time, multiple Law Enforcement agencies have closed in on the neighborhood where the truck was found, and set up perimeters with SWAT and officers armed with tactical rifles (assault rifles). A man neighbors say they saw in the truck who matches the vague description of the suspect has been detained, and the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department has him in custody while they await West Sacramento Police officers to arrive on scene to confirm or deny the detained man as the suspect or not. This entire incident has stretched across 3 counties, and has involved more Law Enforcement in a single incident in the United States than ever in previous history, even outdoing that of the the recent "Arden Way Standoff" which happened not far from the latest location, about 1-2 years earlier.

Just from what I've seen reported on TV already, I can already tell that, at minimum, this suspect could be charged with multiple counts of felony grand theft auto, assault with a deadly weapon, armed robbery, negligent discharge of a firearm, theft of a firearm, attempted murder, felony evasion, multiple counts of attempted murder of an officer, felony reckless driving, and multiple counts of destruction of private and public property. Long story short, if he gets caught and booked into jail, he will be getting a priority ticket to a maximum security prison for a very long time, where not only will other felons "love" him, but after his coverage by the media of his shootouts with officers, I'm sure the prison guards will be more than happy to "watch over" him too...

Agreed. People tend to forget that cops don't try to be ***holes like they appear. They are just trying to stay safe while doing their jobs so unpredictable people like this don't hurt them. In that job, there is no praise, no love, and no thankful people honoring those who save the day. Cops are commonly heroes in disguise, but they never receive recognition for it. Instead they are attacked, **** on, and hated. It's too bad people don't realize the full situation of what these poor men and women deal with to keep them safe...

Edit: It appears the suspect was not in the homes in the neighborhood as originally thought. However, in a nearby apartment complex, Sacramento County Sheriff's Deputies got into a shootout with a man they believe to be the suspect in question, which has now become a standoff situation as the sun is setting and it begins to become dark outside. A far has also sparked inside the building, and smoke is billowing out of the roof. Residents have been evacuated and taken to a nearby emergency shelter. Ambulances are rushing to the scene alongside Fire Engines, and SWAT is standing by awaiting a planned decision. They have also discovered that yet another vehicle was previously jacked by the suspect in question. This is gonna be a loonnnnggg night!

Edit 2: The man involved in the shootout previously mentioned has died, and Sheriff's Deputies have confirmed that he is the suspect in question. 15 hours and 6 minutes after this mess began, it has finally ended. Suspect down, officers safe, 1 man rushed to the hospital, 1 apartment complex on fire, 2 trucks stolen, 1 car jacked, 2 tractors hotwires, 3 counties involved, 7 Law Enforcement agencies+CHP+National Guard, 6+ hours of Interstate 80 closed...I can keep going too. It just goes to show that no matter how much you imitate Grand Theft Auto, you ain't gonna get away from the cops.
