I live in Bosnia, one state which was in Yugoslavia. Most of my family was in war and lot of people died from village where my dad born and my dad almost got killed by hand bomb.
Even today there are scarfs of that war.

My dad was at war zones in Croatia, Bosnia, and at border with Albania.

I don't think I was born when he was in Bosnia or Croatia, but I can slightly remember when he was at Kosovo.
I was just a little kid. I was like 4 when he was there. Risking his life every singe second, getting phobias from the shadows, thinking that they are enemy soldiers.
When somebody shoots, you do it, too. Even if nobody is there, you shoot in the dark.
I really will never forget the day when I saw him coming home. Even if I can't remember it all, but I can remember than moment when I saw him coming home with a gun at his shoulder...
Had to write this, it's a good feeling if you share something like this with others...

Well...

I've never had lot's of friends of my age, idk why.. Most of them where adults, they still are.

One of them went to Afghanistan, to help in the mission over there (Dutch militair). He got now a syndrom (golfsyndrom I believe) and is mentally broken, and will never be restored.

If you got some time, take a look in the book --> Soldaat in Uruzgan (Soldier in Uruzgan, thought it is translated). It will explain alot, it will explain the REAL sight of a soldier.

I live in a country that was historically defined by war. War against our Spanish masters for three centuries, war against the Americans in the early 1900's, war against the Japanese that ravaged our country in World War II, and war against the insurgent rebels that have been kidnapping foreigners and innocents (including children) ever since.

The worst thing? Our politicians keep the insurgent wars ongoing (even though our poorly capable military is capable of ending it as it has been geared for domestic insurgents rather than foreign disputes) because they are making profit from it. For all we know, the rebels could have the same suppliers of M16 rifles as the army.

I myself have never seen war first-hand (although my grandfather was a WWII veteran agianst the Japanese), but I grew up hearing about it so often in the news, that it is almost like watching the weather forecast.

I might hate the government and our politicians, but there is always a different respect for those uniformed men who put their lives at risk every day so that your country can be safe.

The most important part is interacting with others and meeting people from around the world.

Soldiers are there to protect, help and to developpe. Not just to  :m4:. The games like MW, BF3.. All that kind of stuff if pure bullshit. Games aren't real, being a soldier isn't always get out the gun and shoot like a freaking idiot. No, they help.

And that's why we need to respect them. They offer their lives for us.

Semper Fi, goodnight.

Yes but what happens when solider get orders to do something they morally shouldn't but is necessary? I'd rather pay my respects for those who help humans actually and not commit attrocities.

Well, a officer can make a mistake. A soldier with a clear mind, will denied that order then. That soldier won't get in trouble because he refused to make a mistake.

In some regimes, the penalty for going against your dictator's order to kill ____ could be execution after you are dishonorably discharged.

True, but in the general U.N. army you won't get that.

They'll just blast straight away a bullet through your head.
