Have any of you tried out the Windows 8 Consumer or Developer previews yet? What are your thoughts? I've just installed it and so far it hasn't been a really good experience.

The native Windows 8 Metro apps are great, however as soon as I installed custom software, namely Google Chrome and Skype, my whole PC started bugging; First I couldn't see what I was typing in all text fields, then, when I tried going to the settings app, my PC froze on a nice Windows 8 logo screen..

A lot of people have been complaining about the new start menu. Personally, I think it looks and works great and I like it. Once you get used to it, it should take less time to find a program you want to start rather than having to scroll through a huge list.

The app store is absolute rubbish and has been very poorly adapted to PC users. At first I didn't see the invisible scroll bar at the bottom of the screen, so I had to keep pressing the arrow buttons to see more categories.

Also, I can't understand the idea behind the startup logo at all. It looks like a logo designed for an OS for kindergarten age children. I guess a fish is the closest Microsoft can get to Leopards and Lions. The official logo, on the other hand, looks quite nice, but I haven't seen it anywhere yet..

Posting this message before it crashes again..  :lame:

Nah, I'm staying with Windows 8! The invisible text problem seems to have disappeared after I installed my graphics card drivers, so hopefully it won't come back..

Windows 8 by reviews sounds as shite as Samsung's Bada OS.

Okay, if it doesn't let me install a normal version of MSN I'm definitely going back to W7...

lol

I was gonna triple boot with XP and 7, but on my XP there is n immovable fragment, so I cannot shrink the partition as much as I'd want to, so I'll just stick with XP and Windows 7 for now.

Turns out that you can still use the normal MSN!

As a pro user, and due to the circumstances of my job, using Windows 8 just limits me, as well as my workspace. The constant pressing of the Windows key to get back to the menu with apps is annoying as heck and honestly, I prefer Apple's Lion movement and the use of spaces (and I know that it originated from *nix).

EDIT: Also, the fact that Windows 8 will come in two flavors (Win8 and Win8 Pro), I am going to be forced into buying licenses for the Pro version due to the lack of group policies and domain join.

Microsoft has done this since at least XP...

Anyways; I'd have to agree with Xcasio here, that new msn looks like crap. I guess the layout of everything will take some getting use too; I'll give the dev preview a feel I suppose in a few hours.

The consumer version is an improved dev version with many bug fixes, don't install the dev version :conf:

As for OS X, that's purely a matter of preference. I've always had to use Macs at school and still hate them to this day. But please don't start a Mac vs Windows debate here...

I posted that picture from a Late 2008 Apple Macbook. The upgrade to Lion was $29.99... I really doubt that says I have money.

Microsoft has done this since at least XP...
Unfortunately. If only it was one size fits all... and disable/enable things you need or dont need.

/me being a typical mac-user: WINDOWS SUCKS! COME AT ME BRO!1!!1

Jokes aside, I'm better than that. I know for sure Windows exceeds in the enterprises (such as the one I work in). At my work place, we have around 30-40 servers that handle a lot of data and for sure 30 of them run Windows Server. The other 5 run Mac OS X Lion Server, and lastly we have one *nix server. Obviously, we were taught more on Windows-based computers. Our current hardware manager insists we use Windows and hates Mac fully (but uses an iPhone, what a hypocrite). Sadly, I, being only an analyst, cannot argue nor get him to see both sides, and it's not the salary difference ($150k/year hardware manager vs $45k/year analyst).

Aside from that, how is the multiple display support on Win8?
