Hi guys,

For the last 3-4 weeks, every time I listen to Argonath Radio it lags/cuts out frequently, even to the point where there is more silence than sound. This is beginning to get very frustrating as this makes it more difficult to fulfil my duties as a radio manager.

It has always done this occasionally, but now it does it every time I try to tune in. It is the kind of lag that happens when you have a slow/unstable connection, however I don't believe that is the case for me as my connection is more than sufficient to listen to an internet radio station. The interesting thing is, I can listen to any other internet radio station fine without this problem, it just appears to be with Argonath Radio. I have even tested other European radio stations at 128 Kbps (the maximum allowed on Argonath Radio streams). Heck, I'm evening listening to a Dutch radio station at 160 Kbps without problems.

The weird thing is, I can stream at 128 Kbps to Argonath Radio without any problems (usually), and my upload speed is approximately 8% of my download speed.

This happens to me, But When im Djing. My connection is very good yet I find when the SA:MP server is busy I cannot use the Radio Server... idk if its a coincidence or maybe they are hosted on the same service... But Yes you are not alone.

It happens to me as well.. I always thought it's because I live thousands of miles away from the server.

Wow, I actually thought I was alone, since most people I talked to have no problems at all... :\

Yeah, that's what I thought too.

As far as I know, the Shoutcast and SA:MP servers are on the same machine. I'm assuming this is the case with everything that has the IP 178.63.52.144, which is basically every official Argonath server. However, this lag occurs for me at any time of the day.

What we all have in common is that we live at least 6,500 kilometres away from where the server is located. This still doesn't explain why I can listen to any other European radio station at higher bitrate though. I can only assume that this is an issue with the Argonath server communicating over long distances...

I do hope we can solve this problem though.

SA:MP streams the same radio playlist file as listening on the website, to each listener. It just puts it through the game's radio instead of a media player. I can see individual IPs of everyone listening, so that much is clear.

I've not noticed any problems, except while listening to SafetyMoose's show (as he's already explained his problem, mine's a result of his). It does seem to be a problem with Argonath, though, as we tested other shoutcast streams from around Europe on Hess' connection and it all worked fine, some up to 320kbps.

Some investigation is clearly needed, as it's affecting users' experience.

Guys i think its also good if you all also specify on which Djs show you getting problem or just on Sauron... /hail 2 :D
OK i can be wrong on this but as per my experience in streaming the best idea to do is if some Dj is on low net speed they should stream around in 64-91.kbps and test out..
EG : Janek have high speed net so when he will host even @192kbps it will be smooth for every1..
