Alright... Last night about 2:12 AM we had an earthquake here in Bosnia. It was 5.0 on the richter scale. And guess what, I'm on the 12th floor of a skyscraper (the last floor). The building was shaking like mad, I never felt so scared in 15 years of my life. The only thing I did was went for my sister, and hugged her, praying to Allah (God). I thought it was the end, so did my sister, and this is the first time something like this happened, to her aswell, and shes 24. My mom was sleeping at the time, she woke up when it was stopping. When it stopped, about 10 minutes later we recieved calls from all around the country from our family asking us if were fine. I literally thought the building was going to collapse. All the windows nearby were broken due to the earthquake. I think this is the strongest one here in Zenica. After some time, about half an hour, we saw people evacuating the buidings, so did we. We were about 30 minutes outside, going into panic what will happen. Some people were having predictions of a 7 richter scale earthquake coming in 4:00. But guess what, we went inside, so did everyone. Maybe its just a warning from God, because its Ramadan and people are going into clubs, drinking like never before, playing loud music. Who knows... Earthquakes happen because the world under our feet is always active and will always be. When two plates collide, it causes an earthquake, due to mass of these plates.
This is what you experienced and I can imagine this is quite a scary experience, even though you must not be afraid. Earthquakes occur everywhere and in most of the cases, your earthquake was a single act and won't occur very soon again.

Here in Belgium, a country where no ramadam occurs officially, had a pretty intense earthquake last year and not in that period either. It is simply our Earth that keeps evoluating like it has did the past 10,000,000 years.

Also you shouldn't be afraid for living on 12 floor as if house collapse it goes down so first few floors are the ones were people should be afraid as they can fall under height of rest house and stones.
