A massive blackout hit northern and eastern India on Tuesday afternoon, leaving 600 million people without electricity in one of the world's most widespread power failures.

India has an installed capacity of more than 170,000 megawatts, up from a mere 1,362 megawatts at the time of Independence in 1947.

Yep, the country just got f**ked up HARD, i already predicted this a year ago though.. There will probably be a power crisis in the country for atleast 15-25 years to come, cause not only is the technology very low, the politicians are very corrupt(oh wait, make that 30-40 years then).

If anything this is just minor winds before the storm, the energy consumption in the country has been growing at about 7 percent per annum which is very high, it will easily over-capacitate systems like this. Let alone all the sources of power available provide low amounts, and the country's economy + politicans reduce the chances of high tech power sources to less than a speck. Nuclear power is being considered, but most of the country including me are against me, mainly because we know that the politicians wont really take good care of these plants...

28% of the population was affected, It was northern part mostly and not eastern. 6 states, and 1 national capital territory(Delhi, where I live.)

I have to say, it was fun, nothing worked, neither traffic lights, nor atms, or gas stations. Trains, metros. Fun!

Tho what I experienced from this is, people still have brain and common sense, the same people who would usually cause accidents, jump lights, kill people were following the rules while the traffic lights were off, people were waiting for others to pass after every few moments, on the points where there were no traffic policemen to manage the traffic. It was nice to see.

mhm...do tell me more about your research over this topic for several months that clearly states that the power usage is under 170k MV when all the analytics done by the biggest statisticians in the world claiming that it is over 170kMV is wrong, oh and please apply for stanford on your way there..thank you.

I just heard that India is about to send an exploration mission to Mars. No offense but your politicians must be really..unappropriate is the best word I could figure while maintaining language.

 Instead of spending highly needed money elsewhere, on health, education, agriculture and production, they choose to spend it in a way that there is no help for the citizens..when will the politians learn?
