Just looking at the time now at 2:49 AM...

Its been like this now for... a long time. Not the time, the going to sleep rather late and getting up at the ass crack of dawn, by which I mean 5 am. "Professionals" say 8 hours of sleep is required for the body to function properly. Yet, I get 4 to 5 hours of sleep a day, and can fully operate a vehicle, have normal conversations, and work (programming) pretty much all day long again till late at night without much issue.

I wonder if the amount of sleep required is actually just something like metabolism, every person is really another story. Any inputs?

How well a person can act after only a short amount of sleep depends on the person.
It also depends on what you do. For example sleeping 4 hours and sitting all day would be okay.
Sleeping for 4 hours and working hard will get you tired.

Yeah, everyone requires different amounts of sleep. Some people can get through a day on as little as 3 hours of sleep, where as some need the recommended 6-8 hours, or perhaps even more. Myself, I don't really know. Unless I have to go out the next day, I usually go to bed quite late (around 3 or 4) and can end up sleeping in till around 1 in the afternoon. However, today I went to sleep at 1 am and got up with no problems at all at 6:30.

Keep up like that, but it'll pay off when you will get older. And you'll say "Damn, i needed to sleep more" . Remember that being psychically tired is much more dangerous than being phisycally

Your body sits in the REM phase of sleeping for only two hours a night. This REM phase is the only phase of sleep that scientists have been able to link to having an actual use, and that is resting your body. The rest of the time you are asleep is just wasted time (or so it is believed since we have never figured out why we need to sleep outside of the REM state).

Are you saying that
A: Out of our approximately 8 hours of sleep only 2 hours are used.
or
B: We only need to sleep for 2 hours.

I highly doubt you mean B though.
Else nobody would be sleeping for so long.. :)

I've heard this before too, A doctor told me. But he said something about it isn't the first phase, that there is other phases in your sleep that may take place before or after this "deep sleep" part of the night.

Hmm, I feel mentally fine as well, or do you mean something else?

Back when I was in school I used daily party and call my friends to my house. We used chill till 4 at night and wake up at 6 to school . So I had routine over a month of sleeping 3-5 hours each night while friends could rest normally after a party and I instead of rest would call other friends to my home.

After a month of such life and lack of sleep ,constant moving and partying my body shut of at school and I almost fainted.

After that one month I was sitting at my home and it was dangerous for me go out anywhere as I was constantly fainting at any time doesn't matter how much rest I took. My body hold it to the max and then overloaded what caused all of this. Since that I haven't repeat such thing and make sure I sleep enough long.

You might hold it fine overall if your daily activity is not that much ,but if you go crazy unexpected may happen and better it shouldn't as my experience was awful and I wouldn't wish anyone that.

Well, no matter how tired or w/e I am my regular sleep is like 5-6 hours max. Been living like this for 2 years now. I can sleep up to 10 hours only if I'm drunk or stoned like shit, but I guess that's just me and my astounding f**kedupness.

I average about five hours a day if I'm working. If it can keep a Paramedic going it can keep anyone going.
