The School of Hard Knocks | Would something like this work? | Anyone interested?

I always hear the words "The players must change the server.". So while I was thinking last night, this idea came to me. I believe TeaM used to kind of do this back in the day... Anyways, the idea is rather simple, it would be a "School" to learn how to RP a "gangster", though if some trained officers/other roles were willing to be teachers, it could expand to the full spectrum of RP. As I don't feel experienced enough in cop/other role-play to try and teach it myself. If we had cops and criminals teaching in the same area/time, criminals and cops could learn how to RP with each other without the worry of being DM'd or abused, as they would be in a safe learning scenario. I would also like if the administration/mod team would participate in this, as they could make sure nothing was being taught the wrong way and could maybe push some new players into learning the correct way from the start, before they get the wrong idea.

I have a few questions for the community though....

1. Do you think players would sign up for something like this? would embarrassment or ego get in the way?

2. If I were to start something like this, I'll need to start gathering teachers, is anyone interested in being one? PM me.

3. I know it's a start in the right direction, but could something like this actually change the server as a whole?

4. Going off of question 3, how would one go about getting the community interested in actually RP'ing and learning how to?

5. As a player, new or veteran, would you sign up for lessons if a service like this was provided by the community?

Feel free to add any other input you may think be useful or if this is just a waste of time. I'm just tired of the current state of the server and would like to help change it for the better, I know many of you are too. What we have here in Argo is unique and could be completely amazing with the right minds working together, getting the community to change within itself.

If you want to bypass the problem of ego's getting in the way, you can always add a clan perspective to this like TeaM did.

Meh, then that adds a whole other ego in to it, "Hey I made it in this clan, you didn't, nah nanana!". It would need to be really community driven, tags just cause problems with joining other groups and cluttering up your name. You should be able to be apart of something else and be a teacher or be in a group while learning how to RP, so you can come back to your group and pass on your learnings, maybe influence some others.

Since you have asked me to contribute some input and opinions, I will do so, along with an analysis.

In a server such as SA:MP where dozens of players come and go on a daily basis, starting up a school immediately by yourself is not a practical move, as opposed to if you were on a smaller community where the majority of regulars are acquainted with each other, such as MTA:VC.

A better approach would be to assemble a group of players who are willing to participate in your effort to establish a roleplay school. Just as a dedicated group of Server Leaders and Developers must be assembled before putting up a new Argonath Server, a dedicated group of school administration and staff must be put together, before you release it to the public.

I suggest you start by forming a group of players, preferably one that is multi-sectoral. Through this, not only can you have instructors and staff with different experiences in roleplay (thus not limiting your students to only one point of view), you might achieve your goal of extending it to the entire spectrum of roleplay. This is what Violet Corleone did before the Role Reversal Day event, by coordinating the different groups involved on both sides, before the event could become a reality.

Once you have a group of players, you can begin working on the structure. Put together a school structure (for example, what kind of lessons will you offer? How will the teaching be carried out? Who is your target market?), assign administrative staff, instructors, and the like. Only after those two steps will you have a structure that will handle itself better at launch as compared to an effort launched by a lone individual.

To summarize:

1. Come up with a concept (you're done with this part)
2. Form a group who will assist you with your plans
3. Create a structure for the school's operation
4. Launch

It's actually really great idea as I had past experience related to this,when my fellow friends opened Gang and invited me. I wanted to join however I had no clue how to act or roleplay a gang member,and thanks to god friends guided me so I didn't had problem with it.

But let's not forget there is people who think they are smartass and in no need of help or the ones who get banned in a week for hacks.

I don't see problem with teachers more than with students,need students who have a will to learn and interest. Either way this will be dead with teachers or without them.

When Argonath started on SA:MP the leaders were the only ones giving out passports and driving licenses.
As it got busy and we are not online 24/7, we gave admins the right to do the same, and taught them how to make passport tests.
Soon after someone asked us permission to create a driving school, so the driving licenses would get some extra meaning.  We did not have a problem giving this permission, it was just some fun addition and not obliged. During the years this has grown to an institution that every player is going through.
After a longer time, some people came up with the idea to lighten the load of admin by making a passport test group. They, CMB, would prepare people and take a test, so that admins could just give the passport and not need to take time of other duties. Over time this too has grown in to something every player passes.

If you wish to start a roleplay school, where people get taught more than the rules but also can get examples of how to behave in situations, and how to create more interesting things them selves, that is not at all a bad idea. You can count on our backing for the basic program. In fact, if you want it to succeed, you will have to ensure that you are teaching our standards and not the 'roleplay guide' you see on other servers.
You can not teach people ccreativity or common sense. But you can inspire them not to follow what they see, but to use what they have inside them. If you manage that, your school can in time become an institution like the two examples given.

Like I said earlier, this is a great idea. It'd definitely help create new, exciting scenarios in the server, seeing as these classes would give people more insight on what we at Argonath are all about. I'd personally love to work with aspiring officers, assuming my agency would allow me to. If I can't, I know the SAPD guys would love to. And even if they can't, hopefully some of the old veterans who are now in retirement from either FBI or SAPD would come back and be mentors to those aspiring officers. The most exciting part, to me, though, is the interaction with those aspiring criminals. Maybe if they meet and greet with the other side of the law, it'd ease tensions in those moments where they'd usually flare. I really don't see any negativity that could come out of this, as long as there is no one there to just criticize the students on their roleplay ideas once they're expressed openly.

It's good to see someone take initiative! As long as you dedicate yourself for this, I'm sure it will grow and become something important for the server after a while.
