In addition, the jury found that in most cases, Samsung’s patent infringements were knowing and willful. It also found that Apple’s patents were valid."

The $1b isn't that much actually, just merely 6% of their profits and 0.42% of their revenue (which was $247.5b last year)

Well seeing as Microsoft stole the Apple Idea for a computer and made a crap ton of profits  and look where they are now, I think Apple was just a a bit pissed and didnt want to get rolled over by Samsung. If that is the case, then the creator of the cellular phone can sue many of the giant companies today for making billions of dollars off his creation.

Not unless Samsung had stupid engineers who literally based their creations off Apple's instead of putting the hardware together in their own way.

The cell phone is patented. I'm not too good at copyright law, but I guess the creator's (Martin Cooper's) employer (Motorola) owns it. No idea if other companies have to pay them some kind of royalty to manufacture phones..
