Okay well, I recently bought a DVD Drive (SATA).

It doesn't play any CDs / DVDs... Sam as with a blank disc.. I bought a new one because my previous one did the same problem, and this drive is brand new and still has the exact same problem, I've plugged it in the other SATA ports, and still messes around. Un-installed the drive and reinstalled, still messes around..

Is there a possible way I can sort this out?

First things first, is your DVD drive getting reconised by the Computer itself? Does it show up in the 'My Computer' menu?

No matter the results, go to Device Manager in the configuration screen and see if all items function correctly. All problems are marked with an exclamation mark (!).

I'm unsure if SATA DVD Drives still have jumpers, but in case they do, make sure they're set to default.

Nope, they don't. All of that is configured via the BIOS.

Give me a bit to dig up some info if I can.

Known hardware/software conflict with XP. Registry issues etc etc. You can go to Microsoft's website if you're comfortable with editing registries yourself, or you can download this software fix.

NOTE: There is also an automatic fix tool on the Microsoft website (on the linked page) that will do it too, so try out both and see if they work out for you. I'll continue having a look-see around.
