They don't and they're more peaceful at the moment than the EU.

Emm, can you please tell me what wars EU was involved in recently? Thats right - none. European Union is a union, not a military alliance, EU has no authority over NATO and UN, so please, dont blame EU for NATO's crimes.

It's only fair to acknowledge the level of unity that the EU has achieved to an extent. Utopia probably doesn't exist in this world, but the EU has at least worked to solve some of the problems and it has made some achievements. Good credit to them.

Perhaps on a comparative scale they've done better than other parts of the world?
It still has a way to go, as does everyone in that sense. Within the EU military conflicts may be next to none, but they're still linked to certain global activities, you could argue. Plus, its history is not the best, having been at the heart of two out of two world wars (though again, that might be unfair as it was just the European continent in general).

Maybe it was a suitable decision, but after all the Nobel Prizes are "European", no? :P
On a serious note, I hope that Nobels, alongside other similar awarding bodies recognise the great work by some individuals and organisations who genuinely go out of their way to try and make the world a little better. I have a lot of admiration for them. :)

Wars are fought economically now.

You are right. EU did its mistakes but so far it managed to assure its populations welfare. We're still in a serious crisis but although this we're still extremely rich and well-to-do comparing to all other realities of the world.

Just a note: no doubts about Utopia, it can't exist by istelf :P (ou topos=no place).

:)

Few centuries, maybe even decades ago it was all colonial - "Age of Empires". :P
Wars are fought economically now.

I suppose most of the world is now an economic playground, run partly by politics.
With politics and so called "democracy" one good thing is that few countries or individuals can act unilaterally, most need the support of others, which hopefully lessens the risk of one nation trying to take over all else.
- Though that doesn't stop them dominating the economic battlefield.

Haha, like that.
