Will this GPU work well with my setup?

So yeah, as the title says. I'm not very knowledgeable in this area.

I like the HD7870, but I don't know whether it is compatible with my other hardware.

Graphic Card
Asus Radeon HD7870

Current PC
Motherboard: Asus P8H61-MX
Processor: Intel i5
RAM: 8gb
OS: Windows 7 Pro 64-bit
Current GPU: Nvidia GT210 (temporary card when I got PC)

I noticed the HD7870 uses PCIe 3.0, but apparently my motherboard only has PCIe 2.0 support. However, some sites say the GPU will still run with no performance issues on similar setups to mine - but of course I want to be sure.

I'm not willing to pay more than the above-mentioned card is, if other cards are to be recommended.

It can work but it is better to test it out first.. It would work in 80% of the cases but the performance of the GPU will go down for sure.

It won't run at optimal performance as the GPU itself should be PCIe 2.0 compatible but it will have the ability to run faster on through a PCIe 3.0 Slot, perhaps invest in a newer motherboard at the same time if possible?

Yeah pretty much this is the only good choice. Hope you got an extra hundred dollars.

What is important in this case is how many amps your PSU is putting out via the 6pin connector, and how many amps the card requires.

Take a look at the box which the PSU came in? If you don't have that, try type the PSU's name/model in google and try get some specifications, and do the same for that GPU..

Bought the computer as it is, but when I get the chance I'll take the cover off the case and see if I can find a model anywhere.

Its really a good card i use HD6670 and im preety happy with my performance im able to run many games on high settings with almost everything on even though im on dual core and a normal motherboard with old ide hdd which which is almost 7years old hehe :) (Only planetside 2 is not able to run smoothly due to my low end processor)

With your setup it should be like a hot knife slicing through a butter

Do click some pics plox would like to see the setup :D

Ok, turns out PSU is actually 500W.

Took some pics of the PSU + setup.

If you can, get a GTX 660 ti like me and you will balling out
and DON'T skim on your psu. It will damage your system really fast

I had a look at the GTX 660 TI, however its a bit more pricey and demanding. The HD 7870 is the highest I'll go, price-wise.

Also, according to the AMD site, the minimum recommended PSU for the 7870 is 500W for 6-pin. And I doubt my other hardware is very demanding of the power.

Should be fine, right?

If you are only buying one card without any future update. Buy about 500-600W should be more than enough for everything.

If you're running crossfirex, sli like me with watercool. Depend on your future spec, you looking around 750+. Buy corsair PSU. I gave it a thumb up. i got my HX750 for 99.99 dollars during Blackfriday sale and it works just amazing

You should pick an nvidia one since it's better than your 7870. However, if you want and i think the card will go with the "never the settle" game bundle. Then you should pick the 7870 since you have bunch of free games to play during this holiday season
