Probably the only good news after THQ shutdown. :p THQ never did justice to WWE games.

With THQ recently closing down, the WWE video game license is up for grabs, but it appears that 2K Games will be taking over the WWE game franchise.

IGN is reporting that Take Two Interactive, 2K Games' parent company, is in the process of acquiring the sports entertainment company's gaming license, but that the terms of the sale are currently unknown, as the details have yet to be finalized.

According to IGN, this deal appears to be taking place outside of THQ's formal auction process, which has seen the former gaming publishers assets split and sold of to various gaming companies.

Previous rumors had the WWE franchise being sold off to Electronic Arts and its famed EA Sports brand. According to the wrestling blog CageSideSeats, THQ owes WWE owner Vince McMahon $45 million for their existing video game agreement.

The official WWE video game Twitter account has recently tweeted that there will be a positive announcement about that video game franchise's future forthcoming. The tweet reads, "We don't have any details to share yet, but there WILL continue to be WWE Games. Stay tuned for more information and some exciting news!"

It will be interesting to see if Take Two Interactive hands the development of the WWE games to its sports developer Visual Concepts or whether it will keep the series current developer Yukes studios, who has a long history in developing wrestling video games.
THQ's last professional wrestling video game is the recently released WWE '13, which hit consoles back in October. The game was the fourteenth overall entry in the long running combined series and featured a return to the Attitude Era of the wrestling organization.

The game was well received and earned a nomination for the Spike VGA for Best Individual Sports Game. The Xbox 360 version of the game currently holds a score of 78-out-of-100 on review aggregating website Metacritic. The PlayStation 3 version has a slightly lower score with a 76-out-of-100.

Probably great news. Atleast I hope so. Tho WWE games got ruined with online gaming possibility in my eyes. No wonder that I stopped playing them to HCTP

I liked WWE smackdown vs raw 2011, but the last two, were plain out lame, we WWE fans were being literally tortured ever since 2005. It was like we were forced to buy the same damn thing over and over again with just the hope left in our hearts that the next one would be better.

UFC went into great hands, as it'll be being developed by EA now. If EA might acquire WWE too, it will definitely be a boost for WWE programming, however not sure of the same for the game franchisee.

Personally I do not believe 2K will do any justice with the franchise, but heck, anyone is better than THQ when it comes to this franchise.
