What f**k is this for game? Some wannabe CS game ?

ARMA 2 is a military simulation video game for the Microsoft Windows, developed by Bohemia Interactive Studio. It is the official sequel to the Operation Flashpoint-series following its predecessor, ARMA: Armed Assault (ARMA: Combat Operations in North America). ARMA 2 saw a limited release in May 2009, and a wide release from June 2009 through July 2009. An expansion pack titled ARMA 2: Operation Arrowhead was released in 2010. In June 2011, a "free-to-play" version of the game was released, featuring multiplayer and limited single player modes.

ARMA 2 is a tactical shooter focused primarily on infantry combat, however it also features significant vehicular and aerial combat elements. The player is able to command AI squad members which adds a real-time strategy element to the game. This is further enhanced by introduction of the high command system, which allows the player to command multiple squads using the map. ARMA 2 is set primarily in the fictional Eastern European nation of Chernarus, (meaning "Black Rus"). The Chernarus landscape is based heavily on the Czech Republic; the home country of the developer.


tl;dr:

Realistic shooting simulation game. VERY FAR away from counter strike as bunnyhopping or shooting ground to get headshot doesn't exist, but things like bulletdrop and zeroing do.

Do we (people with a full copy of Arma 2) need to do anything to be able to play? Install anything extra or change anything?

If you have Arma 2 full version: Please ensure you have the latest patch installed for compatibility. If you seem to experience issues : Check your arma 2 folder. Sometimes the installer creates a subfolder called Bohemia Interactive which has Addons and Dta. You will need to transfer those back to the Arma 2 main folder.

In other words, you need patch 1.11 and that's pretty much it.

For those who are ready : The test will last 1h30m  and will be a coop with a certain ammount of AI. Our goal is to test for potential crashes, errors or overload.

The server game will start at 00:47:00 CET and the server will shut down at 2:17:00 AM CET.

Please put in another folder any mod or addons not official as they could interfere. Keep only Arma2 official addons in your addons folder.

Download ArmA 2 free at http://www.arma2.com/free

IMPORTANT
You MUST download the latest ArmA 2 free patch after installing. Get it here!

Otherwise you will get a languagecore.pbo error.

Paid users
Ensure your ArmA 2 is up to date. Run it with absolutely NO mods or addons.. NOT EVEN ARROWHEAD!!
Then you SHOULD be able to join the server with the original copy of ArmA 2.


FAQ

Q: Why not Operation Arrowhead?
A: Operation Arrowhead is NOT off the table. We wanted to do ArmA 2 free to bring more interest to it from the Argonath community. If we see enough demand and interest, we may indeed open a Operation Arrowhead server alongside the free.

Q: Why not DayZ?
A: DayZ uses a plugin that is currently native to Windows only. The server we are using is Linux and therefor cannot support it. Perhaps in the future we may be able to do it, but money is tight, and Windows servers are expensive. If you really feel like contributing, feel free to donate to Argonath.

Q: I made a mission. Can you guys use it?
A: Sure! Message me or Jaaskaa and we will certainly look at it.

Q: Where can I buy ArmA 2 full version?
A: The best deal you can get it from is ArmA 2 Combined Operations - only $25 USD on Steam. It includes both ArmA 2 and Operation Arrowhead expansion.

 Start over. Start Steam via "run as administrator". Next before you do anything else run ArmA 2 once. This will write keys to the registry or CO will not work. When you have ArmA2 and OA installed and have run ArmA2 once use the "Launch ArmA2 Combine Ops option in Steam. If you have additional problems suggest looking in BIS forums

It seemed good? Since I have Arma 2 I think I will try it when it's open the next time.

Re-installed Arma 2, join the server for about 5 minutes and then it was shut down.

We are hoping to expand the server to a larger customer category. While we will maintain the F2p Server, we also expect the release of an Operation Arrowhead server yet this is to be tested. So far all official announcement will remain about the F2P.
