It will take some time for them to be sure. They will run multiple tests just to be certain it wasn't staged with someone else's body...especially given the ex-cop's Special Operations experience in the military.

So, the fire was purposely set by the police hoping he'd run out and they could all shoot him dead.. Honestly they had like 100 cops, SWAT, FBI, even the army and they still couldn't get the job done within police regulations.

The video Elite posted doesn't prove that. This seems to be a misunderstanding. Listening to the radio, they called in the FD, (also known as Fire), when a fire had started as a result of their raid of the building. It was likely a smoke grenade which set it off upon SWAT entering. I've seen smoke grenades and tear gas go off before in buildings during raids and have it catch them on fire. What people fail to often realize is that these are still explosives. They just don't shoot out shrapnel everywhere when they explode. Same thing with flash grenades.

BBC News just said the law enforcement are very confident it is the man they are looking for and also said the shootout is over, so he must be dead.

He is. I think the news there is a little late. The incident ended about 12-14 hours ago. They found a burned body in the charred remains of the cabin, stating they believe it was the ex-cop. However they are going to run tests to make sure before saying either way.

The incident was so big, it made national news here. Because it was happening just prior to the U.S. President's State Of The Union address, all the major national news stations had brought it up, promising to provide coverage after, should a resolution be met. Unfortunately though, many of them forgot to, even though it resolved before the end of the address.

Basically they are saying that they cannot confirm it is him yet. It said nothing about the body definitely not being him nor did it confirm it.

Exactly what Jacobc30 said. They are not confirming or denying anything because it is not their investigation. They can't make any statements going either way until an authorized, official public release of information is ready to be given.
