Hi.
Basically I can start up my laptop, get to the main screen and after around 2 minutes, it completely freezes. I can move the cursor around, but nothing functions. Some people I've spoken to say it must be the motherboard and it's best to just get a new laptop.
I just wanted to double check here. Is it really something unfixable?

What did you last change before the problems started happening?

Run an anti-virus check and use CCleaner to wipe out your temporary data etc.

Nothing. I guess it just had its time. About 3 years old now.

Will give it a try.

Kinda hard if it freezes after 2 minutes lol.

If there was a problem with the ram, it would beep on startup.
If the motherboard was at fault, I highly doubt it would boot up to start with.

It could simply be a hard drive corruption, error in the BIOS or software related (OS).

Exactly what I thought. So I guess re-installing Windows would help, hm?

Start off with reinstalling Windows, if it still gives issues, try reset the BIOS to optimized defaults and go from there.
If it somehow still continues with a clean install I wouldn't really say waste the cash on a new hard drive, because it could be something else, but I really doubt the motherboard is causing it to freeze.

The only reason the PC would become unresponsive with the mouse still working is a glitch in the OS itself, if it was the motherboard it would freeze completely and possibly even turn off.

I just noticed; when it freezes, I can still move my cursor around but whenever I click on something, even the cursor freezes and the laptop makes a beep noise.

Computer freezing are caused sometimes by serious problems with your operating system, two possible causes for such are Virus/Malware and System/Registry Errors.
Another maybe less possible issue might be overheating which would cause 'lag/freezing'.

I would suggest you to reinstall your operating system. If the problem comes up again, maybe check if all the fans are running properly.

When the laptop freezes up and you click, does the loading light come on or does everything just stop?
Does the CPU fan spin up faster or is it operating at the normal speed?

When I click, nothing can be done anymore. The cursor just sits there.
Also I noticed that the fan wasn't the best anymore. When I used the laptop for around 30 minutes it makes a loud noise and it overheats. So, I guess that the fans have something to do with it. Is there anything I can do about this?

It's highly possible it is overheating if there's improper cooling as laptops really don't have good cooling at the best of times.
Do you possibly have an air-compressor or something you can use to blow the dust/dirt out of the fans?

I will try blowing the dust out of the fans. However, if it freezes after 2 minutes and does not even overheat, it is possible that the heat caused a part to malfunction already. Not sure though. Will report back with results as soon as I blew it out.
