New graphics card needed

So anyway, my Radeon HD 4670 is starting to show it's age, it's kinda starting to not run the newer games at the frames I want and it doesn't actually support DX11, which means I might not be able to play crysis.
I have been looking into a 6670, which seems to fit my wallet as well as my PC case while being way way way more powerful than what I have now, I have only one question, do you guys have any recommendations of something that might be cheaper and better as I am on a bit of a budget since I am a lower-middle class eastern european 16 year old guy who doesn't have a job and whose parents don't support improving PC specs as computers are some sort of wizardry, which can only be explained by the fact that back in their youth computers didn't exist for people as they were busy obeying the communist regime to avoid getting shot or sent to prison to mine salt for 69 years...

About the Radeon HD 6670; you wont be able to play the newer games on High Quality with enjoyable frames. Though the cheap price and the performance should fit to Medium - High. I got myself a ATI Radeon HD 5570 with 2GB. It doesnt support DirectX 11 as well, but the performance itself is enough to play newer games with 30-50 FPS on Medium-High Quality and a resolution of 720p.

In summary the Radeon HD 6670 would definitely fit your beliefs.

Any DirectX11 based game will also run on DirectX9, it'll just look different.

So DirectX is more for these kinds of differences, not compatibility.

Personally, I'd recommend nVidia, but if you're on a budget, I guess some of the high-end AMD cards are able to do the job as well.

Thats correct, you are on a good path with the 6670.

If you could push for a 7750, I'd get that - it's better than the 6670, might last you some more years. Also remember, if your CPU is as old as your current graphic card, it will bottleneck your computer, making the GPU upgrade rather useless...

The Crysis 3 beta refused to run on my PC with an error message saying "A DX11 compatible graphics card is needed to run this game"
As far as I have seen nvidia cards are weaker than similarily priced AMD cards
Also the 7750 seems nice, might look into that

To be honest, AMD gives you great OC abilities. I own a GT650 from NVIDIA, and from what I've seen, an OC 7730 beats it by a margin.

and yea, I can run Crysis 3.

around christmas i invested 150 euros in a ati 7850, together with with my intel quad core 3,4Ghz it manages all actual games. ( not on very high but high settings when u want 60fps ). for more its possible to over- and underclock with 2 mouseclicks. GPU clock 600 - 900 Mhz and memory clock 900 -  1300 Mhz.

i know its an old high end card and in todays comparison i would say its between middle and high class and has a very good price / performance relation.

That's odd, I guess it's application related instead of DirectX related, then. I haven't really had any problem running anything on DirectX9 based cards, yet, but in the future the compatibility will decrease faster than I initially thought it would decrease, apparently.

While the prices of AMD/nVidia cards depend on their videocard manufacturers (ASUS, EVGA, Palit, Club3D, etc. ) rather than the developers of the ICs, it is generally true that AMD gives slightly more performance for less money. However, I personally like to take a lot more in mind than just the performance. I've had bad experiences with AMD cards and their longevity, and heat is usually not something they can take very well, although I can't speak for the 6 and 7000 series regarding that matter. ATI/AMD has always been kind of a challenger for the real champion nVidia. nVidia usually makes the real contributions to the consumer video rendering world, while AMD simply counters them by copying most of it. The only real innovation AMD has been leading in is the use of multiple monitors, but then again, that goes back to the 4000 series, and the 590 pretty much showed what nVidia was capable of developing on multi monitor hardware.

To sum it up, my preference for nVidia is based on primarily outdated facts, but looking at the architecture they've developed over the years, they definitely have maintained a certain level of quality that makes me not even want to take a look at what AMD has come up with. You just sort of hear stuff through the grapevine.

It was never a high end card at all. It's, as you said, exactly between middle and high - and essentially has the best price to performance ratio

I definitely agree with Sal on that one, The newer NVIDIA cards can take heat to extreme extents thanks to their Kepler architecture.

But yes, they are also very expensive.

Competitor should be the one closest in specs, no? As far as I know the Titan is the best single GPU card on the market right now. Pity that it has to cost so much. It'll be fun to use in a few years.
