Any state where the Head of State is named 'King' or 'Queen' is a monarchy.
In Europe most monarchies have reformed to a 'Constitutional Monarchy' where the Head of State has relinquished power to a Parliament, and maintained a largely ceremonial and advisory role.
In many European countries that are republics the President has a similar role.

Or like in small countries like denmark, here we vote for a new Primeminister every 4 years like when voting for a president, their laws they create are just supposed to go through the whole political system where it have to be voted through in the parliament.
