I heard people saying that desktops provides more performance than laptops.I know laptops stuff are like compressed as compared to desktops.
I had a previous laptop installed with core i5 second generation with 4GB ram.My friend had the same too but installed in desktop.I compared it,there was no significant change in performance.

So why people say that desktops are still better?.Though i go against desktops as they are not portable and espacially in my country, load shedding is the great problem. It just bugs your life!.

If i am wrong so please help me with to deal with this misconception Thanks!

Hello . I dont know about the basic performance between them . But I do believe that a Desktop is a bigger machine with a bigger fan which would be a good idea .
Also you got to think from the economical side . To buy a laptop with the same abilities as a desktop will probably cost you more .

Well.

If it is for Business purpose , I prefer a Laptop.

And for gaming or home use , desktop is best.

P.S. This is according to my usage

Desktops in general will always outperform laptops. There's just a lot more advanced technology availible for desktops, and there always will be. There's simply more space for better equipment. Some day the technology will get smaller and actually fit into laptops, but that's gonna be very far from now, and by then I guess the development for desktop equipment has also made huge jumps.

If you want the most out of PCs, go for a desktop. If you want portability, go for a laptop.

Desktops also have better cooling solutions (better on performance), possibilities to install more powerful graphics and also upgrade your system. That makes it a lot better than a laptop.

Laptop. Over time we completely eliminated all of our desktops in our house and haven't looked back since.

The last time I used a PC was back in 2007 (not counting the ones I use at my institute, dad's office or anywhere such)

But yeah, PCs are better for three reasons

1) Better cooling - A major reason
2) Upgradeability - A desktop's components can be updated
3) Cheaper - Desktops are waaaay cheaper compared to laptops

I own a $1500 ultrabook myself, its another thing that the place I live in, I'm yet to see a desktop with a better specs than my laptop yet, or one than outperforms my laptop in anyway at all.  :devroll:

Laptop. I love the fact that I can go in the garden, living room, kitchen and still be able to have access to the internet.

The one with 20-40FPS in Crysis 3?   :conf:

Maybe you should actually open your eyes because there's plenty of desktops that will (a lot more that 'just slightly') outperform your laptop for half the price. I bet my rig would outperform it as soon as I insert the two GTX470s I have lying around in SLI. I didn't pay more than 600 for all the parts. Most are secondhand, but still.

With a desktop it is possible to select the components yourself and put them together. This way you can not only get the best machine for your budget, but also expand and upgrade it easy.

A laptop has the benefit of being portable, however due to limited space the component are often expensive compared to desktop components.

Another thing is that I have yet to see a laptop make it past the 2 year mark with my use (12-15 hours daily), while desktops can take that without problem.
