The outrage began when the government decided to build a mall and tear down one of the last green areas in Constantinople. I am pretty sure there are way more reasons than that of course such police brutality, recent ban of alcohol etc.
They completely banned alcohol or something?

Edit: Wow..

lolno, just that shops can't sell alcohol after 22:00. Not exactly a "ban" huh? People like dramatizing the situations.

Do not spread fals information Yuri.

1. They are planning to build a shopping center, not a 'better park'.
2. Selling alcohol only after 20:00 or 22:00? What 'democratic' reasoning is behind that?

Protests being misused by people who just want to riot is usual. However it were protests like this that caused the civil war in Syria, so better be careful.

Just like the London riots, a bunch of chavs setting fire to and stealing from shops because they apperently were 'fed up with immigration' or 'couldnt get a job' or 'couldnt get a good education,' sick of people claiming to riot for a reason when really they are doing it just to steal or have fun.

Every country needs a civil war once in awhile, lets the government know who's in charge.

Most of the Turkish people are Muslims, In Islam Alcohol is haram/Forbidden, They broke that, Okay we said its a freedom, Aerdogan(The prime minister) made that as drunk people percentage is very high, They didn't stand that, So they waited any dumb reason to make riots, Protesting is legal, Your rights to protest are reserved but not to destroy a beautiful country like Turkey/Istanbul just because, They've not allowed selling from 6 AM to 9 PM, In Egypt we've nothing to lose, Our country is fucked up already, Please put your brains in your minds again, You just don't want him to build a Shopping center which is going to be the biggest and serve your economy, Takseem square makes not difference if its here of if it isn't, Try to keen on your country.

Aren't you the one who posted stuff like "kurds don't have rights to speak kurdish in Turkey" here, while there is a national kurdish TV channel funded by this very goverment? I don't really "trust you". Just like yourcomrades, you too spread fake stories. Just like the blacks in USA, yes you were treated wrong back in time, but now you have more rights than everybody else, yet still moaning. Your father probably told you about how mistreated kurds were back in 80's, but not about the current situation. Most kurds don't have to pay electricty bills, kurdish women are generously paid for healthcare of their children, many more privileges that I can list if you want. So please, cut the crap.
You deserve a medal for shutting him up.

Yeah? and how come you are so SURE that they are building a shopping center while the government itself isn't sure about their plans yet? what is your source lol
The Dutch and international government press office.
If they are wRONg it means someone in the Turkish government has lied to them. Fix your own country.

Erdogan stated that the current plans are to merge the nearby museum with the park and modernize the area, but no certain plans so far. This "shopping center" thing is just another rumor. Don't talk about things that you don't know dear mister Gandalf. I've been to that place dozens of times. Gezi Parki is a small area, I don't know about where you live but here we don't build a "shopping center" on such a small zone. Current "construction" is just a regular road paving.
Actually I have visited it as well. And as said the information came from official sources, not some rumours.

This is not vodkalands, we normally don't pillage the shit out of the nation's biggest city over a "alcohol restraining" order. And even though it has nothing to do with democracy, again, they can vote for some alcoholic on the next elections if they wish.
So you feel that in between elections the government has absolute power to pull off any shit they want regardless of the other 55% of the people who did not vote for them?

Well this shows how misinformed about Turkiye you are. Totally irrelevant.
Not irrelevant at all. Erdogan has been shouting for Assad's head as a result of similar actions that the Turkish police are doing now.
So if he is not a hypocrite, let him step down for being unable to control the people.

The brainwash is sure as hell high in this thread. Just as usual, people who never been outside The West see Eastern Europe/ Eurasia/Asia as barbaric states led by dictators and killers. If you haven't been there or haven't even looked up proper sources, stop spreading stupid shit, it just makes you look foolish and ignorant. It's always the same shit "Assad is bad", "Belarus is a dictatorship", "Putin is the new Stalin",... Get out of your hole you call a room and look up the shit that comes out of your mouth first before wiping it all over the internet, seriously.
Turkey used to be a modern country, where a separation between religion and state existed since 1929. It is also Turkey that is calling Assad bad, not me.

Turkish PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan has warned that he will not show "any more tolerance" for protests.

He vowed to end the demonstrations after police cleared Istanbul's Taksim Square, the focal point of unrest for nearly two weeks. Police used water cannon, tear gas and rubber bullets, causing many to flee the square into adjoining Gezi Park.
