Regarding DDOS

For those unsure of what a DDoS attack is, this may be a good read:

In basic terms, it is what happens when a user takes a group of servers (or clients) and "zombifies" them, essentially tricking them into each sending out massive amounts of packets at one time to a website or system without them knowing. On their own, a few computers generally can only cause slight lag, but with DDoS'ing tools abusing thousands of systems, as well as very powerful computing networks themselves, the effect is magnified hundreds of times. All those packets at once is just too much for the victim to handle at one time.

Think of it like traffic on a highway. When there is too much traffic, you get traffic jams and everyone gets stuck until they can't move. Meanwhile, you have more traffic at the end of it just piling up further. The highway gets so clogged, it can't do anything to clear up the traffic.

well if you asked me ... you can never be sure about it ... I believe that Gandalf just wants to give some time in the situation ... let him get bored ... !!I suppose!!

All attackers eventually do get bored, as we have been here for almost 7 years strong now, and still our enemies come back, begging for more.

Okay something off topic ... About the donations and money ... What about adding more ads to the web sites? I mean I would prefer to have a lower ping and such even if I had to close 10 windows while opening the forums ... IG is the main part of argonath not the forums ...

The problem is that advertisers that use such things often hide malware. So apart from users being annoyed, they could be threatened just by opening our forum. However we are open to people buying the current ad spaces, that by itself would solve the problem.

I didnt know there were already spaces left unowned ... Scrap my idea then ... But still if you could find some safe guys and you had no space for them I still encourage that idea ... I mean ... get us annoyed the forums im sure nobody will really care about it ...

We have always had DDOS's, donating won't stop a thing, except if it's a large donation. ($1000+) In our community, the majority is studying and are struggling with money, so this won't happen.
There is no option besides waiting and report the DDOS.
As being said, the lag ingame can be fixed with better scripts, our teamof volunteers are working on it. To the team: Take your time and make our server grow again with new unique scripts. You got my appreciation and best wishes.

It's very difficult to find safe advertisers that are willing to advertise here specifically. Most companies that have an actual product to show off, (that is not paid through spam or malicious intent), is usually shown on very large, worldwide-popular websites. Argo is big, but to them it doesn't have the massive amount of attention they seek, so they brush us off as "small time". Malicious advertisers, however, only have the intent to cause damage, so they do not care how small or large a website is as long as they can effect their actions on as many people as possible at one time.

Well there are ways to reduce the ddos attack like implementing a fire wall that authenticates the packets and will only accept so many packets within a time span from a certain ip adress.
