Well, if you play on a server that is constantly attacked and goes down, of course you get mad. Especially if you donate to it.
As if Gandalf is doing this all on purpose, understand him. He is trying to fix this all, give him a hand and be patient.

Well some people might see the donate like it should help, and it might feel like it doesn't if the server still goes down, would feel like wasted money for me, but hey, that's me, and thats why I don't donate.

We've taken appropriate action to the dot include as far as taking legal complaints to local police of those conducting the actions and also including the FBI. Time after time we are given a generic response and don't see any direct action. The best we can do is take every attack as evidence and make sure it is sent to the appropriate departments and we do. There is simply nothing more we can. Sure, we can attack them back and make sure their computer and network never works again but that isn't how Argonath works, its against our morals and professional standard.

Even with the countless of donations (which were explicitly requested by gandalf himself in order to keep the server online) and ad-money, very little action has been taken to increase the server's security or to switch to a more stable host as it seems. Correct me if I'm wrong but imo the frustration is understandable. So for all the robots and parrots repeating the same thing over and over again ("dont like? leave", "then donate",...), I suggest you keep that in mind.

I feel you man....
What you think that I am happy about it? Apart from it costing me numerous messages every time to report the IP's and get things re-opened it makes me mad that some kid can push a button and make an attack.
Problem is that unless we make it our selves, we simply do not have the means to stop the attacks. Though we are working on some smart ways to resolve it, as well as trying to take out anyone who comes forward.

Maybe if you stuck the world Bank after Argonath the FBI and/or this kids local police might actually do something.

All of those robots are just looking for some kind of respect gain or post count increase.

Then i'd suggest you to read the post that gandalf made several times about the price he pays out of his own pocket to keep the server up, your donations do not only go towards upgrades, but also towards the price the server costs yearly. Argonath is free to play, no one forces you to be here, nor forces you to donate. Wich is all your own choice to do. It may have been requested, but a request does not has to be followed.

Yea, and I didn't say it's your fault either. I'm just trying to tell the people that just stick with the "Don't like it, leave it" that of course you get bloody mad if you pay a small ammount for the server to stay alive and this still happends.

Well, then we'd get in trouble.

These types of comments don't further the conversation. They waste our time reading them rather than focusing on tracking down who is responsible for these attacks, and overall fixing the damage that has been done.

You have access to my PC and those of others involved in this? If not then please do not make false accusations.
Our host is as stable as any, our security in general is enough never to get hacked.
As for donations and other income we have never made enough to cover the costs of running, let alone that we can invest in added security. Unlike servers who choose to sell VIP accounts as well as in-game objects and where the owners take holiday trips on money of their players.
A real safety would cost $1000 per month. Anyone who would like to sponsor that for us is welcome.

Like I said, I'm not blaming nor accusing anyone, I wanted to notify the people who ignorantly reply with useless posts. Also, how come that, according to Teddy's post, each time DDOS occurs, action is taken yet DDOS keeps reoccurring for several weeks, if not months now? Is it because of bad response of law-enforcement or because of a constantly new perpetrator?  Note: This is a question, no criticism nor accusation.

Oh, I'm unbanned now. I don't know if it's temporary unban or not...

but Gandalf, you need to feel me, with constant downtime which have been accursed as long I've been playing on Argonath need to have a stop. A suggestion from my side would be to reduce
the unnecessary services Argonath currently hosting, like MS Flight Simulator, Live for Speed and things like that. Even if they do not hold any people, they still, in the virtual of space takes resources.

By the image you posted, I found out that you using a 100mbps uplink, all serious services, for exemple web hosts are using 1000mbps links today, at least, those who are serious enough.

You know, I don't want Argonath any harm, but you need to know that I'm also pissed off, by many things.

DDoS'es are incredibly difficult to trace or block. Even government websites get DDoS'ed all the time and can do nothing about it. Law Enforcement will be notified post-investigations of the attackers, as we often find their personal information lurking all over the internet for everyone to see. Just give it time.

That wouldn't solve any of the problems caused by DDoS attacks at all. It doesn't matter how much you host, the server will go down in an attack regardless.

Also, the server's network connection may be 100MBPS, but the internet speed is different. Most servers that claim to be using 1GBPS connections are actually lying, and are only talking about their network connection speed.
