Lithuanian military is under-going a reformation to continue and preserve the traditiosn of Lithuanian armed forces. Hussars, Dragoons and Lances were the main fighters of Polish - Lithuanian commonwealth during the middle ages (For the western world - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polish%E2%80%93Lithuanian_Commonwealth). After the re-creation of Lithuanian Republic in 1918, these names were returned to Lithuanian Military, however, after leaving the Soviet Union, they were forgot in the past. Right nowthese names are to return to the Lithuanian Military.

I really don't know whether it is the UK or Lithuania-Poland that waste more time ''showing off'' what they were like centuries ago.

We've kept the monarchy and with that military traditions. Not many people here complain about it, more support it.

How is it showing off? Unlike many countries the UK can back up it's traditions with actual military might, and since when is keeping tradition a bad thing? It's one of the reasons the UK gets so many tourists.

We arnt exactly calling the SAS 'Knights' are we, so uhm, kind of makes no sense why you'd bring that argument up in this Lithuanian topic.

A Mosin-Nagant rifle, a Soviet APC (presidential limo) and a half of a T-34, I think.

Stop spreading your bullshit hatred around the forums before I get someone to take action. Lithuanian military has advanced technology and weaponary, we do not need a tank to defend our nation, just like we didnt in 1991.

Showing off? What does that have to do about it? We're following our traditions

You're angry because your country does not have anything to show off about/

Yes, you can just submit to any opposing force, why start a war?

I am not spreading any hatred, nor am I angry. I am just saying that the British constantly emphasize their long-gone importance of the neocolonial era, while such emphasis will not change their current position in world affairs (their prestige from this era already gave what it had to give). In the same way, there is emphasis from Lithuania (and Poland) on the things related to PLC which are not followed by any other changes, hence the waste of time. I never meant to irritate you with this.

By the way, if the Lithuanian military is modern, why are they reintroducing ranks of 400 years ago out of the blue, just for the sake of traditional naming?

So you went from targeting Lithuania to specifically targeting the UK, I'm not sure wether it's jealousy or wether you just have a grudge with the UK, but either way we follow our traditions, and still are a global power, our 'long-gone' importance hasn't gone anywhere, I don't see Brazil fighting the Taliban or protecting trade routes from Somali pirates and just general global policing, all of which the UK does, it's clear you'll come back with a big headed response and tell me how crap my country is and how wrong I am, but it won't bother me and I probably wont read it, if Lithuania wants to bring back history of theirs, then why shouldn't they? It's a name, they arn't giving their soldiers metal armour and an iron sword..

Just by having a monarchy and parading soldiers up and down outside Buckingham Palace? It's our history and most of us are proud of it.

You obviously have something against the Lithuanian army if you say bullshit like: 'They only have a T-34 and other crappy soviet vehicles'. 1 Tiger = 20 T-34s

The soviet union and communism don't exist anymore. In fact, the latter was never accomplished by the soviet union in the first place. Get real, and stop spreading lies about former soviet countries.
