A former CIA technical worker has been identified by the UK's Guardian newspaper as the source of leaks about US surveillance programmes.

Edward Snowden, 29, is described by the paper as an ex-CIA technical assistant, currently employed by defence contractor Booz Allen Hamilton. The Guardian said his identity was being revealed at his own request.

The recent revelations are that US agencies gathered millions of phone records and monitored internet data. A spokesman for the Office of the Director of National Intelligence said the matter had now been referred to the Department of Justice as a criminal matter.

The Guardian quotes Mr Snowden as saying he flew to Hong Kong on 20 May, where he holed himself up in a hotel.

That's their excuse. They overstepped it, it's unconstitutional, and they know it.

I've lost all faith in the U.S. Government, it's becoming the very thing the colonists started a revolution over 238 years ago.

Where must we go... we who wander this Wasteland in search of our better selves?

I've also lost hope to them, shutting down the gun laws would be something, why does an american need a fully automatic to hunt deer?

As much as I want to counter argument about firearms, this would be going off topic.

It's got nothing to do with anti-gun-laws which is simply a symbol, not an actual measure against violence. Any idiot could do as much damage with a hatchet as with a gun.

I think it's a good job he leaked it. Sometimes you need to take risks to get changes, if that means the man being arrested and sentenced to life imprisonment but people have the freedom from government then it should be done.

Couldn't agree more.

And I'm amazed of that he steps up and doing it, I read a quote nice interview with him, interesting.

The colonists didn't spy on everyone, they just imposed taxes and laws which none of you agreed with (despite the fact you're all originally from the colonists country).

Agreed! :war:

Considering they have an extradition treaty, it's pretty unlikely that HK wont extradite him if the US ask.

That's what experts have already said. They are saying he should move himself out of Hong Kong quickly because "if Uncle Sam wants something, Uncle Sam will get it".

I'm sure he could always go to the Ecuadorian Consulate, I'm sure they'd be happy to take him.

'Uncle Sam' is a fat stealing liar who murders to get his own way.

If they haven't been seeking his extradition yet, then theres probably a hitman on the way looking for him.
