Hey guys!

I need a new phone. I was taking photos of my dog with my BB Z10. My dog suddenly pulled my earphones cord and my BB went face first from my second floor to my first floor. (I was near the stairs. It went through the fence thingy). The screen completely shattered. The LCD is busted too. White, green, random colors on the screen. Fixing it won't be an option because it's quite expensive and warranty won't cover it. (Accident, not manufacturing defect)

I have used all mobile OSes except for palm (who uses that now :P) and windows phone. I would like a windows phone as my next phone. I like their live tiles and simple layout like Windows 8.

So I don't know whether to get the Nokia Lumia 925 or the HTC 8X.

I know that Nokia cameras are pretty good but 8mp? My old Xperia Z was better than it. Also is beats audio really useful  (is there really a difference?) or is it a fake marketing thing? (Like a basic EQ option)

Please give opinions!

Thanks! :)

More megapixesl =/= Better
In fact, it often is that more megapixels equals poorer image quality.

I have a Windows Phone (Lumia 720) and I love the simplicity of it and like Apple, things just work without the extra hassle needed with Android. Can't really tell about the 925 or 8X as I haven't had my hands on the 8X and when I did get the 925 on my hands it just still a prototype. I'd recommend reading separate reviews of both phones and decide which suits you and your needs better. For me what I really wanted was long battery life and one-hand operating, hence my decision to go with the 720 that has the largest battery of the range and that you can use by a single hand.

Seems like both of them are pretty much the same. The CPU and RAM is the same. Are there any special Nokia or HTC software? (Like in android, Sony has it's own music player with better sound quality, Samsung has it's own Touchwiz UI).

Thanks. I love blackberries and their keyboards (the touchscreen one on the Z10 was pretty good. I thought it would be like an iPhone keyboard). I used to have a 9700. That was the best BB ever with the faux leather back lol.

It's really hard to find an actual, physical QWERTY keyboard on any phones now :(

Nokia Lumia 925 for sure. Firstly, Nokia is king in the camera department, adding a sixth lens, as well as optical image stabilization in the 925, it trumps the 8X any day. I would also like to add that you are getting the latest version of Windows Phone on the 925, the 8X is still a version behind.

Also, how many apps (good ones) are there in the windows store?

The app department is small compared to google play or app store. But you get almost all the popular apps you would want plus some good replacements. I haven't bought a nokia yet but I tested the 620. It's really really smooth and fast, plus, I really really liked the interface. Go for Nokia 925, you get a very good camera with it.

P.S. Wasn't it you who suggested me to buy Android? :p

Lol Yeah. I love android. But i'm getting bored of all the phones on the market. (It's either Android or iOs). I want something new and fresh (hence returning to a BB) (which my dog/me broke). So I want a Windows Phone now :)

I honestly don't know why you're going for Windows Phone. It's extremely limited. And if you really want a basic "PC / desktop" operating system on your phone, get an android and wait for ubuntu to be released which can be overwritten on android phones.

If you reaaally want a Windows Phone, get an HTC Titan. Extremely good, big and quality phone for a very decent price. Especially used versions.

Many great apps are on the store, the ones you are looking for are something only you can find out.

Check out this site to search for apps you may be interested in.

And no, the HTC Titan is a much older Windows Phone running an older version of the OS with a lesser camera than the Nokia Lumia 925 offering.

Sure Windows store has basic stuff like Whatsapp.. But not advanced applications and games like Play Store.

The 925 would be a hilarious waste of money.
Such a strong phone limited to the Windows platform.. Just a shame.

I might try to hack the 925 to run Android or something after I got tired of Windows Phone. (Surely somebody will port the whole android to 925. Somebody did it with the N9)
 :)

Depends on what applications you are looking for, your judgement does not make up the millions of Windows Phone users who are content what Microsoft is currently offering within their store. I for one, coming from the Samsung S2 running Jelly Bean prefer my Lumia 920, even though the application count is not higher than iOS or Android counterparts.

Wouldn't say limited, rather thriving on a smooth and intuitive interface that such a device is able to highlight. Anyhow, this isn't a discussion about platforms, rather how cchipscookies is able to choose a Windows Phone for his specific needs.

Good luck in your decision and I hope you enjoy whichever device you choose. Please do not hesitate to message me if you have any questions regarding Windows Phone.

How is the music player on Windows Phone? (either on Nokia devices or HTC devices with beats). I'm not an audiophile but I like my music.

Settings like EQ, surround sound etc... ? Are they available? And are there other music player apps (like poweramp on android) available?

Thanks!
