It's the things which makes copsnrobbers here! Let's get rid of it once and for all!
-
Alright way ahead of you this is a Roleplay server and /area is a bit overpowered, we don't need it at all.
-
Alright.
-
Oh shit.. Here we go again. Same was suggested back on RS4. Didn't happen.. Just accept it, we don't want srs rp.
-
It's helpful to be honest, but when you're on the losing side it always makes you angry that other people can find you so easily. Idk, it's hard decision to take because when they remove it like 50 other people will make a topic "bring /area back"
-
What about Cops cant /area the suspects and the suspects cant /area the cops ?
-
What about Cops cant /area the suspects and the suspects cant /area the cops ?
Well this is not all about cops and suspects.
-
What about Cops cant /area the suspects and the suspects cant /area the cops ?
I like this idea.

Work for notoriety level 5.
'this player cannot be located due to notoriety'.
It's easier to get lvl 5 than to make Argo remove /area

/area is there for players to find each other to meet up, yet people use it to make the situation they so despise by looking up their friends/enemies/targets in roleplay. And you blame the command for ruining the server/turning it into CnR while its in fact the players their fault.
Like earlier, the command will not be removed. It was nerfed once before, though.

I agree with Lincoln, the ability to have your /area removed is there already, you just have to work for it.

Lol who is using /area to RP with eachother? Wouldn't it better if they meet up through a phone call because that's how things should actually work. /area is used only to catch suspects or to kill your enemies, hence you say improving teamwork within cops, making realistic chases and reduction of DM is bad? :app:
-
What about Cops cant /area the suspects and the suspects cant /area the cops ?
There's always loopholes for both sides.
-
We've been through similar topics and both parts have reasonable arguments. The conclusion was always that the cmd won't be removed, but there's some restrictions which took effect few months ago (so currently when we /area outcome is only the name of the city ok).
Instead of pretending for this tool to be entirely removed we must not only think for today, removal might cause serious damage in long term run. Therefore we must put in table serious ideas how to remove "power" from his cmd /area.
-Limit the usage of /area [id] with a basic algorithm where we need to wait for a certain amount of time (1, 2, 3minutes?) in order to /area the same id or the same player.
/area 69.
Player xxx_xxx is located in Los Santos.
**1 second later**
/area 69.
Dude you need to wait 2 minutes until next possibility to locate player xxx_xxx
I agree with Lincoln, the ability to have your /area removed is there already, you just have to work for it.
Mate cops cannot gain notoriety.
-
With the removal of /area, you'd be making the amount of rhl over an hour for sure due to the difficulty for the cops to find wanted players, which I am definite that no criminal in Argonath signed up for.
-
What about Cops cant /area the suspects and the suspects cant /area the cops ?
Nice idea and dont need to remove /area this is very helpful for us.
-
Remove /area and add detective job. Win-win.
-
Remove moaning, solve one of the rotten apple issues. If you have an idea post it in the ideas board at least.
-
I cant fucking believe this. Another fucking topic about some bullshit reason. Get the fuck ingame and start roleplaying instead of constant opening bullshit topics and moaning all the fucking time on the forum. Jesus christ.
-
Nothing will change when people just find the need to complain and moan all over including on the forum about petty nonsense. Change will only happen when you start changing the way you behave by yourselves.
It's evident that some people don't want to change their ways they they are also the ones to complain day in and day out. Thank god I have my free time back.

Stunting around Persing Square is roleplay? k.

Atleast I am actually ingame and roleplaying when ever there is something popping up like a robbery or when cops pull me over for it. I do not moan about every fucking little thing that does not help me to 'win'.
-

Total played 12 days, 3 hours and 0 minutes
Impressive.
-
Impressive.
Since when does ingame play time say something about your moaning or roleplaying? Those 12 hours are atleast spent ingame and not on the forum creating bullshit topics about every little thing that obstructs your 'play-to-win' or 'serious roleplay' attitude. All of my other hours are spent on IV:MP where there is less fucking moaning.
Enough face to face bullshit, its about the /area command, not my playtime nor your roleplaying.

Let people who have a little knowledge of what roleplay is to discuss, this is not paruni.
FYI, to get in R* you have to be a good roleplayer. I just never roleplayed with you because you shoot first and ask questions later. Like yesterday ambushing some friends of mine and just deathmatching them out of nowhere and after you and your friends did the deed you just waited to provoke some more.
Now stop provoking me on forums. I don't even know you and from what I've seen I don't really want to. Leave me alone. Thanks in advance.
-

Back in the day perhaps. Now, not so much.

Are we really going to discuss this? I'm not provoking you, you're talking out of your ass, you got nothing constructive to say. Just yesterday you were telling me that I'm such a bad shooter and that I should go 1vs1 with you and now you say you're a good roleplayer? Lol man, go back into your cave that's where you belong. Let people which actually contribute in a way or another share their opinion, discuss things, you don't know anything.
-
The current /area in which it shows only the city of the region is more then fine imo.
Don't see the need to completely remove it. Criminals who wants to gain this, should reach lvl 5 notoriety, and that's it. Lazy to do so? Then don't moan about it.
As for cops, criminals don't area cops that much, at least from my personal experience, we almost never area cops(the only exception is, when we're the open sea in a boat).
-
Mate cops cannot gain notoriety.
Most the posts here seem to be revolving around cops doing /area on criminals, hence my response.

Somebody cannot shoot well AND be a good roleplayer? Well damn. I thought the two were mutually exclusive.

Totally agreed, I don't see why we needed yet another topic for this.
-
We could use a more area specific /area like back in the day. Will be much more useful in finding others to RP with and also benefit police chases. :)
-

Who are you to say I can't give my opinion? Who are you even??? Get off of me you troller.
As for the shooting part - I said that because you were provoking some of my mates and I told you I would show you at Paruni that you are not as good at shooting as you say/think you are.. The rest I male Julio's words on the matter my own.
-
And again another topic that turns out to be wrestling ring. Amen once more. :janek:
-
How would the permanence of the current /area function negatively affect your gameplay? So long as we only get the generic location of a player.
We still have other important things to take care of anyway.
-
Who are you to say I can't give my opinion? Who are you even???
Just accept it, we don't want srs rp.
Then speak for yourself only, because your "we" does not include everyone here. Who are you to speak for us all? Who are you even???
I would support this if I know it's gonna happen. /area is not needed at all, the server already has blips and you can go around the city finding people by simply looking at your map, if you really wanna meet with someone in particular you can always ask for his loc through PM.
Ps: No ask when he's kidnapped by other mafia...
-

Apparently none of you were there in RS1 and the core foundations of /area were made. To remove /area is to go against the Vision of Argo and will never be supported.
-
lol /area useless asf atm like bruh if you use it to rp or chase people might as well pm them and ask where you are
-
Then speak for yourself only, because your "we" does not include everyone here. Who are you to speak for us all?
I speak for what I know. This ain't the first time this was suggested/asked and moaned about and it took a long time for developers to finally change the way the command works. But it won't be removed totally.
A command to find the area of a player has been around since MTA :VC and there were no RP problems back in 2006. You know what wasn't a problem either?? Moaners.
/Area doesn't affect your RP.
It facilitates connection with others.
PS; Don't make me laugh with personal attacks.
-

For some reason this springs to mind... :D

/area is not needed, automatic suspecting by the server is not needed, blips are not needed.
But than again this is Argonath RPG; a world if it's own.
So suck it up.

no
/area isnt the problem
-
Blaming commands for causing issues when it's literally peoples use of those commands that is the issue.
Basically blaming a gun for killing someone instead of the person using it.

I don't understand what is the Problem with /area ?
If you are looking for someone , you must know his damn place before thinking to find him

As somebody who was active in the days MTA:VC, this is a bad comparison. San Andreas is MANY times bigger than GTA 3.
Your second point isn't as true either. You just don't remember there being problems. Feel free to browse the forums at your heart's content if you wish to see it. Granted that criminals now voice their concerns more publically since the server has been improved balance wise since back then. This is both a good thing and a bad thing as many kinks were ironed out such as cops returning after death and other non-sense but it also led to some autistic people complaining about cops using tencodes.
/Area doesn't affect your RP.
It facilitates connection with others.
That is unless your RP is escaping somebody. Regardless of how resourceful you are, your chances of being found are increased a lot just by having a public area.
Most players whom are actively trying to find each just to meet up usually end up doing so via CB, group chat, or PM. That is if they're not using TeamSpeak or Skype like most players are.
Blaming commands for causing issues when it's literally peoples use of those commands that is the issue.

This is true. Not really much to add to it.
/area is not needed, automatic suspecting by the server is not needed, blips are not needed.
But than again this is Argonath RPG; a world if it's own.
So suck it up.
Stagnation is one of things that's killing the server. The problem mostly lies in the players themselves rather than the scripts. Granted the scripts still have problems but the community is now vocal about what's a problem and what isn't.
-
Moving forwards and following player commands isn't what's always best for the server.
Take the initial release of RS5, players moaned so much about how slow it was, they chose to release it when really it wasn't ready yet. (Granted the account resets and such should have been handled better).
-

Not always, no. That's why the forums are here. So everybody can communicate with each other and see what's a good change and what's a bad idea.

Take the initial release of RS5.2 into consideration. Still buggy but so many problems were fixed and it breathed life back into the server. Notice how more of the posts in the development section are feature requests and not bug reports? The account resets were necessary as the economy in RS4 was a fucking inflated disaster.

Yep, but 5.2 is what 5 should have been, had players have not whined about it, a buggy script would not have been released at that stage.
I agree the resets needed to happen, but perks should have been offered, or even a base exchange rate. For example, all new players could've started with 10k + 1% of what they previously had up to 250k.
-

Most of 5's work was by a different team who left a bit after its release as far as I know.

I disagree however that's completely irrelevant to this conversation, which is about /area removal.
-
The position stands that players don't always know what is best for the server.
Unfortunately for HQ, if they listen to the players then people have a good whinge, and if they dont listen to the players then people have a good whinge.
/area was limited in RS5, people complained.
Tazer was asked for, then it was introduced and people complained.
Poor old HQ members have to balance the needs of the server against the wants of the players...well, the most vocal players anyway.
This is absolutely a culture change we need, not script ones.
Suck it up and have some fun, for fuck sake.
-

always
Not always no. Not sure who said that they always are. There have been always been bad ideas by players as there have been by HQ. It was HQ's decision to release RS5 in a broken state, something which our player count is still recovering from. Both sides have made mistakes but to think that HQ is always right is so fucking wrong. They're humans just like the players.
Unfortunately for HQ, if they listen to the players then people have a good whinge, and if they dont listen to the players then people have a good whinge.

I don't see anybody complaining that /area is limited nowdays. I do however see people complaining that /area still exists. (Check the title of the topic).
Poor old HQ members have to balance the needs of the server against the wants of the players...well, the most vocal players anyway.
Isn't that their fucking job? Why even have HQ if they're not there to take charge? This is a stupid fucking statement. What next? "Poor admins having to punish players." Stupid people will still exist regardless.
This is absolutely a culture change we need, not script ones.
Sure, I agree with this. Remove people who want strict RP and people who want to revert to the freeroam with /me that was RS4.
Suck it up and have some fun, for fuck sake
Fun is subjective. The statement that /area isn't RP isn't subjective. It's objective.
-
Eh face it people don't like change we can see that with Argonath hence why every time something is added/removed people moan about it non fucking stop, shame really, but then again you all moan about playerbase and wonder why lmao.
-
Some of you make absolutely NO FUCKING SENSE. Like for real? even the shittiest RP server with no metagaming rules does not have a fucking /area command. It does not encourage or support roleplay at all. Just fucking get rid of it.
-
Blaming commands for causing issues when it's literally peoples use of those commands that is the issue.

Your logic is equal to American gun policy. "A lot of people are killed by guns? Well let's bring in more guns to kill people with guns" absolutely ridiculous. This is exactly why so many politicans want to fix up the gun system in the USA. Now you're pulling the same shit on Argonath as well? It's like saying "Hey, we enabled an intergrated aimhack in Argonath which you can activate by command, it is optional to use it" and when someone complains about it, this is what you throw in their face? Grow up. Stop trying to justify what is wrong.
-

Take a step back and chill the fuck out. I'm a fucking grumpy veteran too but goddamn. He's saying that players abuse commands, such as the /area command. Regardless of what command you introduce, there will be people who will find a way to abuse it to their wishes.

What the actual fuck are you on about? He's not justifying. Want to talk about other idiots who think that the radar relates to roleplay? Sure but he's not fucking justifying anything, just saying that the majority of the players abuse the fuck out of commands.
You could've just said this:
Some of you make absolutely NO FUCKING SENSE. Like for real? even the shittiest RP server with no metagaming rules does not have a fucking /area command. It does not encourage or support roleplay at all. Just fucking get rid of it.
And that would've been perfect.

Right. You realize that this guy used to be the Division Leader? I mean, he's not retarded. Don't look at him thinking "Oh well he is right", well then I have a question: How come under his command that not a single thing was done about that command? He is Devin, he know what roleplay is. It didn't come across his mind right now like "Oh hey, I think McGarrett's into something. It's players abusing the command"
-

The same reason why his team didn't do anything about blips. It wasn't his decision to keep it. It was somebody else's.
-
I swear I laughed my ass off.
Are you here to be a nuisance?

Gandalf has said that Argonath wouldn't get blips removed unless Argonath got more than a 150 active players. We simply do not need a blip when we even rarely enough see blips before. So it is not a priority. The lack of communication between people trying to locate each other should be a bigger priority right now instead of /area. Invalid arguement link.

That's not what I meant. I meant that they would've removed /area but Gandalf didn't allow them to. I'm curious as to what other positive changes could've happened if they wouldn't have been restricted in decision making.

First of everything , I dont like the way you used towards me "Dumbest".
Secondly , If you are intrested to find some one , YOU will just look after him in fuckin nowhere ? THat will take you ages , And one more time don't think to reply on my opinion this way.
Such manners.
-

You can't fucking roleplay a goddamn phone call? You can't contact them:
via CB, group chat, or PM.
?
That's why he thinks it's dumb. I don't disagree with it.

Yes sure how stupid am i , I will call him and ask him mister Where are you at while he know that I am after him to kill him ?
I am not talking about finding a fella that you know , So go find the guy you are looking for to end some bussines with him by phone , Who's the dumb now ?

You just pointed out a great reason why /area should be removed. Because the people like you that just relates RP to murder goes to hunt down someone with an interesting(lame) reason to kill him.
Even in that case, there are still more ways to know who's the guy you are trying to kill, typing a command is not the only choice you have.
-

Let me be stright , using /area with showing the local place Location such as (Los Santos / Las Venturas) Is somthing considered to basic thing as knowing the location that the person at , Like in IRL You could know where the guy you want to find Based on.
Furthermore , Showing the exact location of the person could be a bit overpower (God'sPower).
So my point is /area is kinda normal thing to know the local location of the exact person (IRL : House / Base / Bussines).
-
Quit your trifles please! , If you are against it then simply do not use it.
It's not like we have many players.
-

It's not like we have many players.
That's not the point. /area for oneself should be kept as it is but the ability to access other's should be removed. That's what I'm guessing this topic is complaining about.
-
Nope , What is the actual point of having it accessible only for yourself?
It so simple that People who are against it should not use it.
-
Nope , What is the actual point of having it accessible only for yourself?
To know what area you're specifically in. If you want to meet up with somebody and don't know where you are, telling them "I'm in Los Santos" isn't as helpful as "I'm at Grove Street in Los Santos". There's still people that don't know every specific location's name, especially new players that haven't played the single player campaign.
It so simple that People who are against it should not use it.
The point is that it's still there. If you want to meet up with somebody, do as most (and I myself) have suggested. Roleplay a call or SMS, or contact each other via CB, PM, GM.
-
It would be useless and pointless for People who want to murder , As for new players , Especially those who don't know how to RP It would be also useless and pointless , People who want serious RP can use the ways you have mentioned above.
-
It would be useless and pointless for People who want to murder
Yes, that is correct. Being a hitman isn't easy. They don't have a GPS tracker on them automatically when they accept a contract. They're usually given a hint as to where they may be found but it is mostly never exact and changes. Why should it be easy to DM? Oh, sorry. "Roleplay".
As for new players , Especially those who don't know how to RP It would be also useless and pointless ,
Start them off right and they'll get used to it if they're new to RP servers. Most people coming from other RP servers are usually already used to this. You can't have metagaming rules with the existence of /area. It isn't too difficult to work around it.
People who want serious RP can use the ways you have mentioned above.
Why is it "serious RP" to have /area removed? Having /area isn't a roleplay-related function at all. It's a CnR function to help you find your target without having to jump through hoops. If you're interested in DMing, there's servers (https://dawn-tdm.com/) that are better equipped for it.

No no, you don't understand, if /area gets removed you would have to interact with people to find out locations of people. How do you expect people to interact with each other if they are not fully armed and ready with aimhelper.cs?
-
This fucking topic needs locked and removed. Removal of /area will never happen, and will only cause arguments and debates. Not happening, never will be supported, and I feel bad for your ignorance.
-
/area has been around since forever in Argonath, and with the server being less populated its a good way to find someone and rp with that person.
I agree that commmunication is a way to find someone but only when theres enough players around to help you, which isn't the case right now.
If some group decides to kidnap someone and drive to a house, it would take ages for the police/fbi to find the hostage his captors.
In that time, people get bored, and thats not what you're here for, you're here to have fun, make the most of the situation as it happens and minimize useless waiting time.
Even with /area I recall hostage situations and chases that took over an hour just because everything was RP'd right, nobody (not many) complained about /area because it just helped the players find the crimescene and start off the RP.
Criminals with an rhl of 15 mins are free as a bird without /area , how are 3 cops supposed to find them if they dont know what to look for and not enough people to ask around?

This fucking topic needs locked and removed. Removal of /area will never happen, and will only cause arguments and debates. Not happening, never will be supported, and I feel bad for your ignorance.
I like how you throw a tantrum like this and offer no useful input at all. Of course it will cause arguments and debates. That's the whole fucking point. To figure out what is right for the community. You're the ignorant one just covering your ears and closing your eyes like a fucking child, hoping the "evil" thread goes away. "WAAAH. THEY'RE CHANGING FROM RS4!!!". Try to be useful next time and not act like a fucking baby.
/area has been around since forever in Argonath, and with the server being less populated its a good way to find someone and rp with that person.
Not a bad point at all. We can argue and bicker about why the player base is low but we'd be here for hours. This is honestly a valid point and a good reason as to why we should keep it.
That's kinda the point. Why work hard at concealing your tracks if your adversaries are just going to get their answers handed to them via non-roleplay ways? For example, a criminal could go through the trouble of driving their victim to an isolated area but it doesn't matter since all of that will just be undone once they /area. Of course, I'm not disagreeing that /area hasn't been drastically nerfed but it's still there and it's honestly not a roleplay command.
Even with /area I recall hostage situations and chases that took over an hour just because everything was RP'd right, nobody (not many) complained about /area because it just helped the players find the crimescene and start off the RP.
Chases being long isn't a bad thing. Better than the constant back and forth pew-pew until dead from both sides. It would give time for criminals to plan their escape routes better while on the movie and for cops to work against them. The only crime scenes I see people arriving to like that are car accident ones. The usual crime "scenes" I see are criminals whom are constantly on the move.

Not disagreeing with you there. Granted that it shouldn't be necessarily easy to find a suspect. RHL should be removed altogether but that's a discussion for another thread. Police have many resources such as aircraft to help scout for people.

Link9ly or whatever your name is , You still did not get the notion , With The Plucking out of /area function , People will be only eligible to spot targets using SMS , P Calls and such instead of spotting them with the assistance of /area, Therefor , The Removal of /area function is robustly related to RP since /area itself is not affined to RP , I am very sure If /area gets stripped off , A day later there would be a topic with the title of "please we need /area back" and Those who were against Its permanence would be supporting the recurrence , So Shut up please.

And that is exactly why people should stop complaining, go ingame and take it for granted.

How exactly is this a bad thing? At least the phone call and SMS methods would be roleplaying.

I'm not sure I understand what the actual fuck you're saying. Please try again.

Doesn't disprove the fact that /area isn't roleplay. You can try to look past it all you want but it's objectively true.
A day later there would be a topic with the title of "please we need /area back" and Those who were against Its permanence would be supporting the recurrence , So Shut up please.
And? People who want commands that are a detriment to RP shouldn't be part of the server. We're here to RP. If you want to have an easier way to DM people, go the fuck away.
And that is exactly why people should stop complaining, go ingame and take it for granted.
Shouldn't you be stunting in Pershing Square or some shit?

Shouldn't you be stunting in Pershing Square or some shit?
Throwback.
Atleast I am actually ingame and roleplaying when ever there is something popping up like a robbery or when cops pull me over for it. I do not moan about every fucking little thing that does not help me to 'win'.

Just waiting for this to be locked again.

I'm in the game too. I'm in it right now, as a matter of fact. Also, why are you trying to change this into a cops vs robbers thing? We've already completely destroyed that argument.

Nice reasons listed. Very helpful.

Change it into a cops vs robbers thing? I am showing an example on how I am playing and I am killing the assumptions about my playing. I have never seen any PM or public shoutout to stop doing on how I am doing it right now.
Topics like this with multiple people attacking others without any fucking reason and the constant moaning about every little bullshit thing is the problem in SA:MP. If only the players would suck some shit up and play instead we would not have this low playercount and a much more friendly environment.
And once again:
Enough face to face bullshit, its about the /area command, not my playtime nor your roleplaying.

Topics like this with multiple people attacking others without any fucking reason is the problem in SA:MP. What has it become, jesus fucking christ.
Then don't fucking imply that I
moan about every fucking little thing that does not help me to 'win'.
because I very clearly didn't.
I've already stated the objective reasons as to why /area is a detriment to roleplay. If people wish to remain ignorant and cling onto old shit for the sake of it being old shit, so be it. I can't fix stupid.

Thought i'd leave this open for people to discuss, but we have our own variant of argumentum ad hominem still lingering about. :neutral2:
I'll lock this for the safety of others, don't want to keep hostility to each other if the community's already sitting on a ship of rotten woods.
